Had a bit of rain last night. My camera at home caught me coming up the drive with my recycling bins just and a lightning flash went off behind me.

Cool HUH!! To be fair to Wellington, I can't remember storm like this for years!!

Spooky - same weather happening at your antipodes(ish).
Also reported over here about a successful wheels up landing down your way.

Yeah A little 20 seater. Was supposed to land in Wellington, but they sent it to a smaller airport so that it wouldn't have as much effect closing the airport. Wellington Airport is the busiest domestic in the country I heard that night....but it can only handle up to 737s/A320s - Too small for 747s.. - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=...&z=14&om=1

Firstly, I hope neither you nor yours came to any harm due to the storm...

From looking at the differences between the two pictures (apart from the brightness) I get the impression that your camera has a pretty good frame rate...

No the storm passed pretty quickly, and i didn't hear of any damage, apart from a couple of car accidents where people were not driving to the conditions....but thanks all the same.

yeah the frame rate is not bad is it...this is using it's ftp option to my GBPVR server. The camera is a Dlink DCS-2120 running wireless.

I have GBPVR's picture library set to the location that files are ftp to.

I just checked the spec and it's a mean little thing...

Do you have it set up for live viewing?

I saw something on TV the other night that said the Wellington airport is one of the most difficult in the world to land at and causes a lot of scary landings. I flew into Reno, Nevada a few years ago and had about 3 seconds of zero gravity on approach - fun!

Wellington is pretty clear from obstructions, but it is windy, so you often see photos of planes landing on the runway almost side on as a big gust gets it at the last minute. I'm not aware of any accidents ever occuring there though.

aparantly the old airport in hong kong was crazy to land in, it went right over the city, you took a sharp turn, then land... and they could only use it during the day, since planes went right over residential neighborhoods. but that is all gone now, since they built themselves an ISLAND for the airport
