or can i just disable? I d onot need any recording at all, i am using for playing media files only. Disabling it from admin panel in xp would solve the issue?
If you're not going to be recording or watching live tv, then you can set the service startup to manual or disabled (though it'll probably be started anytime you hit the ok button in the config app).
If you're not going to be recording or watching live tv though, there are probably better apps out there for this task.
I dont know, maybe zoomplayer or tvedia? The point was that most of GB-PVR's functionality is gear toward tv, and recordings, tv listings etc, so not really a good fit with just using it as a media player.
I personally like Zoomplayer, I used to use it for all of my videos before I got a PVR card.
about not having the recording service running, the tray icon becomes very unhappy when the recording service is not running, it is very unresponsive and prevents the system from going to standby. so it would probably be best to kill that process as well

I had the same problem, solved it by setting the GBRecordingService to Disabled in Start > Run > "services.msc".
And its working fine exept that you'll have to put it to manual when you exit Gbpvr Config utility or you'll get an error. But once Gbpvr config utility has shutdown its Ok to put it back to Disabled.
