Time to bring up recordings

I have over 1700 recordings and the files are located on network shares. I notice that when I go to recordings the network computers are being slammed (I assume to verify the files exist.) It can take as long as 5 minutes for the list to show up. Is there any way the search can be done differently? Or would those verification processes be able to be turned off in the config? Any ideas as to what I can do differently? Or should I just pound sand =P (jk)

I'm surprised it takes that long. I've got a couple of hundred recordings, and it loads pretty much instantly, but admittedly these are on local hard drives not network shares.

Sorry, there is not much you can do about this. There is no tweakable settings - it'll always check the recording file exists when the recording list is loaded.

K, what kind of verification is it doing? Maybe I can "fool" it to think the files are there with indexing service or something.

Additionally, it takes a couple minutes to have the pane populate on the first screen. This was instant until I imported the 1600 recordings. The computer had approx 350 on it before the import. Should I check indexes in the database?

It just asks the filesystem if the specified file exists, which is pretty much instant locally.

To be honest, that many recordings is probably beyond what I'd expect it to cope with in a timely fashion. There probably isnt much you can do to speed it up.

Hmm. Yeah, I'm using unc's because mapped drives cannot be used for services. May I ask the purpose of the existance verification if I have the config set to not check for renamed or deleted recordings? Just for my info

The next release will not check for file existance if you have the following two settings in config.xml:

<CheckForRenamedRecordings>false</CheckForRenamedRecordings>
<AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>

Still have a question. As you know I am running MSSQL as my database service. I moved over to sqlite to see if performance would improve, and sadly it got worse. I moved back to MSSQL.

Well, my question is this: since I imported the recordings it now takes 3 minutes to bring up the tv guide as where before it was instant. Processor utilization is under 3 percent during this process and gbpvr is said to be non-responding. Mvp's are equally slow to respond to guide and guide searches (no surprise). Does the program search files when going to the guide? I would expect more demand to be placed on the database service, but it is not. Any ideas?

It appears to be searching for the files existing even in just the guide because I changed all the unc's to a c: something that would of course be invalid, and omg it was instant again!

Do you think the change to the next version you mentioned will encompass this routine too?

It affects wherever the recording list is loaded.
