recently I have had to rebuild my system. I now have a P4P800E with 2000mg of memery, agp n-VidiaGeforce4 TI 4200, and a Hauppauge WinTV Nova T (90002).

Not much differenT from what I HAD BEFORE

I have tried complete reinstals of all diff versions that I have on file and the problem still happens

When I attempt to map the digital channels to the EPG Channels, the screen somtimes changes to the channel search screen, sometimes not, then the first few channels come over the speakers then the system freezes and I have to cut the power to the machine to switch it off and then restart.

Could you possibly point me in the next direction of inquiry

It'd have to be a bug in one of the drivers. I'd guess it's the Nova-T drivers.

WIN TV one of the progs that comes with the card seems to work alright and maps the programs. But i do recall great difficuly getting the motherboard to recognise any of the cards in the pci bus which makes me suspect that it could be linked to the motherboard too. sigh!

thanks all the same. I'll trudge through and see what else I can find. All the same - Thanks for pointer.

Cheers

Try a different slot for your capture card. If you have any other cards besides the video card, pull them and try with the minimal configuration.

cards in machine, sound audigy 2, modem card ?. agp video NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X. Abstracked all but agp and capture card Hauppage Nova T. NO LUCK the prog would still not map the channels.

I now have a new problem. the DVB data base appears to be faulty and is being reported by net.framework. I have reloaded GBPVR and NET.FRAMEWORK to no avail. I attach the details. Cant send the screen shot I am afraid because I cant squeeze it up any more.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

Query 1: The ChangeDatebase utility worked thank you. You did answer this question on another thread query 2. Appologies but I became a bit confused navigating the forum. I shall continue this post.

I still have the problem with freezing while trying to map the channels to the EPG.

The drivers are the latest from Hauppage for the NOva-T and I have no problem with WIN-TV and the EPG service that they provide. I can record programs etc. But I prefer the GBPVR one it is better. The system freezes as soon as it finds a channel. I have tried minimal boards on the p4p800 but all I have on there extra is a modem that is currently dissabled because I have broadband. Ihave tried a different slot, no luck. I have tried setting the viewing parameters to overlay in case that would make a difference but to no avail. Any more ideas?

WEIRD! I just had the same thing yesterday installing my new Nova 500T. The strange thing is that this freeze occurred on my mediacentre machine, but not on the desktop I had first tested the card.

I tried uninstalling, I tried dotnetSP2, changing PCI slots, etc.

Finally I was able to trick the config utility by using the scan-X.cashe from the desktop in the media centre.

My card seems to be working fine now. Big Grin

Is there anyway I can help?

Just thought I would register to add to this thread - and detail a possible/probable solution.

I installed GB-PVR last night and had this problem (amongst others). Coincidences struck me straight away, I have a Nova 500 and I have a Geforce Ti 4400. Every time I tried to map the channels the software hung and Dr Watson takes over. If I scanned from the start (rather than choosing my transmitter pre-selection) then when it found the first mux the computer was just black screened and then reboot - very very not good.

After observing the problem a good number of times it became clear it was related to the preview window - its initialisation with a found picture was the point at which everything suddenly went haywire.

Having read the tests on here I decided to try something a bit different from what has already been detailed and uninstalled the NVidia drivers (latest version) and rebooted. You have to put up with 640x480 50 Hz, but everything is visible. Cancel the "found new hardware" popup for the graphics card and then run the channel mapping - magically it now all works fine (for me anyway). Once everything is happily mapped then reinstall the Nvidia drivers, another reboot and it is all up and flying.

Once the machine is back to normal GB-PVR works as it should, but I only get a blank screen with VMR9 for the stations (audio works). Changing to VMR7 or overlay solves that though and it is all working successfully.

I would speculate that either the mapping preview window uses VMR9 (no matter what the config playback setting is) and the graphics card (no coincidence that two of us have GF4 Ti's) throws a wobbly about it - or there is some other aspect of the preview window that the GC isn't at all happy with and hence causes problems.

Anyway, that was how I managed to solve the problem - I hope it works for others. I am now off to have a play with things, as I can't get any EPG data for some reason. GB-PVR is good, but it is a tinkerers software - though with the tinkering you end up with something far superior to Hauppauge's effort - they have attempted to build a digital PVR solution around a mid nineties basic analogue TV viewer.

Happened to me aswell, see this thread.

I was using the onboard GF4 MX in my shuttle (looks like its a GF4/Hauppauge issue). Might have a go with an old Rad 9800 and see what happens, although the channel scan is working the EPG update is failing.
