I have a Hauppauge 1600 with GBPVR 1.0.8 connected to a MediaMVP on my Hi Def TV. My goal was to have a High Def PVR but I did not want to move my computer downstairs next to the TV and be forced to only access the computer thru the busiest TV in the house. In reading these forums it appears the MediaMVP does not support Hi Def TV- is that correct? If yes, are there any other options for getting HD from my computer onto my downstairs TV? If not, if I did move my computer downstairs by the TV, is there any way to access the computer from upstairs? I am hoping I didn't waste the $$ on the MVP...

Correct.

Other than long monitor cables, there isnt a lot of options.

You can use some of the other media appliances which are HD capable for playing back HD files, but this will mean just using their simple file based interfaces for playing back recordings, rather than the full GB-PVR interface you get with the MVP (giving TV Guide, Recording screen, live tv etc).

I thought of another option- I could move the high powered XP Media Center PC downstairs and hook it up directly to the HDTV so it could be used as a HD PVR. Then move the old Pentium II from the basement upstairs in the other's place. Then set up Sunbelt Remote Administrator or VNC (I believe Sunbelt is much faster) on both computers and use remote access from the old PII to the Media PC when I need the higher powered cpu (mostly some games). The reason I hesitated to do this initially is the wife did not want everyone on the main TV using the computer. The Media MVP would end up on another TV used as a SD PVR and mp3 player for the kids. How do you think this setup would work?

My mistake in reading about the MediaMVP was that it supported "digital" video and audio and I thought that meant HD.

This will work fine.

I know a few guys are using their MVPs with s-video to the HD screen, and it looks ok, but obviously not as good as a HD signal...

The SCART version of the MVP playing back from pure digital sources (DVB-x) looks VERY good indeed (but it's still not pure HD). I'm pretty satisfied on my Samsung 40" TFT though...

YMMV

Tim

SCART is a video out option for PAL users. You won't need to worry about it. S-Video is the closest thing to that... TFT is Thin Film Transistor LCD panel.

Both from first hits in Google... Smile

And I'm sorry for posting unclearly - that's what you get from trying to talk to the wife and appear interested and post at the same time... Rolleyes

Sorry- I found that after I posted. I will give the S-video a try on my 52" Sharp LCD before moving anything.

Lol- you'll have to teach me how to do the appear interested part. I always get accused of being more interested in the TV or computer than the conversation with the wife...

Games over VNC doesn't work very well.
