I noticed that the newer versions consumes a lot more memory than previous versions. Before Net 1.1 versions would only consume less than 100MB mem or would average around 78MB. Now I see that usage reaching 167M or more. I also noticed that when it reaches beyond 150MB, connection is harder or would disconnect. I also noticed that the interface is more sluggish than with previous versions.

I normally had to end the MVP server process from the Task Manager or restart the whole recording service.

Why does it grow during usage? Why the high memory usage as well. Am using basic Blue, the extra plugins that i use are XRecord, VA Panel, Weather, Calculator, Solitaire which I have been using pre-Net 2.0 versions.

Thanks.

Am also attaching screen caps of task manager after a restart of the service and when it reaches a high mem usage and is unusable.

My memory usuage doesnt really get that high. Try temporarily removing all the files from the 'plugins' directory to see if it makes any difference.

If you've got a large number of channels, large number of days of listings, this can also lead to high memory usage. (ie Dish or DirectTV users with 14 days of listings for several hundred channels...)

Mine goes up considerably with two mvps. For each MVP, there is a GBPVR.exe process that takes (as of right now) 188 Mb of memory (and it's usually somewhere in that neighborhood). I upgraded my memory and that solved my performance issues.

Usually when I'm playing with settings, I'll set the number of MVPs down to 0 and it restarts a whole lot faster. I noticed it when we went to the last upgrade that required the .net 2 package.

Did as you suggested, removed all plugins and restarted the service. Basic GBPVR with standard plugins would average at 51-57MB usage. With the XRecord plugin, did not have that much impact with 53-59MB Usage. With Video Archive it went up to 70-74MB. It was when I put in the Weather plugin that it grew out of control, going up to 150MB, so I removed the Weather and Video Archive plugin for now.

By the way, changed Skin from Blue to Basic, did not see that much difference.

Actually my high mem usage isn't a problem, it's just an observation.

I think Sub hit it on the head for me, with the large number of channels, and I also have the weather plugin (which probably isn't helping matters).

Ahhh, I see what you mean about the Weather Plugin. I turned it off and the MVP clients were only about 50 MB. I then unchecked the option in the Weather plugin "Load on initial Startup" and then restarted. The MVP clients were still around 50MB until I selected Weather, then as it downloaded the info, the memory increased on that one MVP process only.

It also seriously decreased the time it takes when doing a restart from Config.

Since I rarely check the weather on there, I'll just leave it as is - basically load it if I want to check the weather.

Sub, you may be pleased to know that as far as #listings --> memory useage, I have 141 channels defined with 14 days and I'm clocking in at ~50MB.

UPDATE:
It ocurred to me that the memory usage was before I started GBPVR, I started it up the memory usage went up to 74MB (during that High CPU time on initial startup - I assume that's when it's loading the tv listings). Wow, this is so much better than 180 MB that I was getting Big Grin

Looking outside, though, wouldn't give me an animated map with rendered clouds, all I would see are real clouds. :p
