Hi; I am new to this program, but I have been designing Web/Multimedia for many years now. I there a area where I can find the information on designing skins for GB-PVR?

Also is there any limitations for example I have a High Def TV can I design my images for 1920x1080, 1280x720 or is there are restrictions?

Give me all the details you have.

Thanks
Raymond

Hi Raymond,

At the moment the skins are really designed around (and limited to) TV resolutions 720x480 & 720x576, but I'll look to add some settings to allow you to specify higher resolutions over the next couple of releases. Most of the underlying GB-PVR code will support higher resolutions, but I just cut a few corners making my skins so the required maths would be easier.

Theres not really any formal information available on the skins, but take a look at the skin.xml files. Most of it is pretty straight forward, but I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I'm also new and have a related question:
Are there skins available for download?  I read through several threads after performing a search, and there was mention of a skins link on the home page, which I can't find.

I also have a HDTV, and am using 1280x720.  The xml files do look fairly straight forward from what I've seen.  Now if I can only get my wife away from the HTPC so I can try it out!  It looks like a great product though...you've done some excellent work.

OK, well that sounds like another vote for allowing higher resolution skins. The funny thing is, users are often telling me they need bigger fonts and less detail - viewing form a 14" TV and all that.

There we're some other skins, but in a recent release I did a major change to how the skins were done to make it easier to create new ones. These older skins were no longer compatible.

Sub;

I had work on a ITV project in the past and what we did was to use XML and graphics, the graphics did not have any text this was added by the application read from the XML file so with so minor adjustments to the graphics and if there is some type of Res setting the App can determine what font height to use or is can be user defined.

For the ITV project I worked on used Flash MX, is there some way I could use this App since it's Vector base and all the graphics could scale to different sizes.

for those who can't wait: i will create a new skin this week and post it so you can download it.

the style is based on the flat - blue - design, has a blue background picture, uses task images and is designed to work on a tv. just wait one or two more days.

I have tried creating a background image (as a test) which is simply alternating lines of black and white. When it displays in GB-PVR (windowed) it looks weird. I have tried creating this background at various resolutions:

720x480
720x488
720x490
4x4 (thought it might tile the image)

but it always comes out distorted. Taking a screen-dump of GB-PVR it appears to be 720x488, What is going on with the image display and how can I get around this? Can I at all?

Also, did the higher resolution options you mentioned make it into the releases? Or not yet?

Everyone search for my skin - scan- by searching for a thread named 'new skin'. It works with all the new updates including showing the time in the EPG...
