I believe he referred to his P4 3ghz GB-PVR server as a Hard disk. I think the server is connected wirelessly to the router, the MVP is hard wired to the router

bibi-phoque Wrote:Yes, it is a wireless network but because it is a small flat (it's expensive in Dublin ;-), I got excellent speed (I can play 720 HD videos from the wireless server just fine, and the divx are on a Hard Disk connected to the router).

Having the divx on the router is a bit of a problem connected by wireless, I think would make the difference is where gbpvr (with ffmpeg) is storing it's temp files, if that isn't local, I think you could end up with severre problems. Worse case

1. ffmpeg reads divx from network
2. ffmpeg write temp mpeg over network
3. gbpvr reads temp mpeg over network
4 gbpvr streams mpeg to mvp over network

If this is your scenario that is really prone to network speed and to speed of your network storage.

Actually, Arjan got it right, let me explain my setup in more details :

- Wireless Router Asus WL500G Premium (great router!!), with USB so I have a 400GB Hard Disk connected to it.
- The MVP is wired to the router.

However, the PC the living room is using wireless connection, I invested in a very good antenna and got excellent speeds. This PC only stores recordings from GBPVR, nothing else.

The problem is that the divx are on this NAT hard disk, and it may slow down the encoding. Didn't think about that. Was trying to have a single location for all my videos and audio (and be upnp ready in case I invest in any other wireless devices).
I can't test right now (the girl friend is watching her favorites TV show in the living room) but I'm sure now that playing a divx from the PC itself will work just fine.

Will try this when the PC is free...

Thanks,
Yann
