I use DVB-T EPG, so I was following this thread . I saw TSreader mentioned in a post by bgowland. I finally got round to downloading tsreader-lite and having a look at it tonight - wow  - I've been trying to work out how DVB-T works (muxs and stuff) for a few months now and and being able to see what is actually there as opposed to having a vague mental model is amazing - it's a brilliant tool...

anyway the point of the post is...
Since I've been a member of this forum I've picked up on a number of tools by following threads and that's great. But does anyone else think that a 'Tools' section in the documentation wiki would be usefull?

Good idea. I need/want something that can indicate timestamp issues in DVB-T recordings that are driving me mad. Someone mentioned mpgtx but it always just says 'invalid mpg file' for me.

Tools=utilities, at least thats where most of the random ones seem to end up. The key is somehow organizing it better. If you figure that out let me know.

Zehd has been doing a lot with EPG stuff on the wiki http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/EPG in anticipation of Sunday, perhaps there needs to be a Manual page like that for digital stuff with links to all the tools and such.

The sub-title on the Utilities section reads
Quote:This page lists tools and utilities especially developed to help GB-PVR users.
I was thinking more of a section for general purpose diagnostic tools like TSReader, MediaInfo and stuff. -Oz- is right - the problem is classifying and organising them. If I saw a few posts about tools other people have found useful coming in I would have a think about it (no promises).

The sort of info I think would be needed for each tool would be:
Name of tool
Download/documentation links
Licence status - Free/chargeable/GPL etc
Brief description of what it does and what sort of problems it is concerned with

For example:
TSReader Lite
Download http://www.coolstf.com/okdownload.html#tsreader
FAQ http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/index.html
Free for non-commercial use
Function restricted version of TSReader which lets you see what's inside the MPEG-2 signal being received by your DVB tuner.

Maybe...

We could probably add a tools section pretty easily. But to warrant it we'd need more than one tool Smile

Maybe...
That's why I was kind of hoping that others might chip in with suggestions... I mean, you must have a few things you use that the rest of us would find interesting (relevant to the thread, of courseWink )

I only bumped the thread as I was interested in checking out tsreader, but when I fired up the freebie version, it wouldn't communicate with my nova-t-500 even with the extracted generic BDA driver. Not that I could do anything with the info - more out of curiosity to see what what whizzing about in these mux thingies.

I didn't have any problem... I installed and fired it up, selected 'DVBTBDASource.dll' as the source (that was just a guess). I then entered 834.000 for a frequency (got that from gbpvr.db3) and clicked on Tune and off it went...
What stage are you getting to?
