I recently installed GBPVR 0.99.5 and YApi2XML, and for a while all seemed to work well. However, last night I tried to record a program, and found that the recording contained only static (snow).

I opened GBPVR and clicked on Live TV. Snow on all channels.

Many months ago, I had a similar problem, so finding the old forum notes, I realized that the video decoder may be missing or broken. So, I installed MpegDecoder012.msi which I obtained from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec. This fixed the problem that last time, but didn't help with my current problem.

I have reinstalled 0.99.5 and run regcleaners, rebooted, and even restored my system to a few days earlier. Didn't help.

In Config, under the Playback tab, I tried all the listed video decoders shown:
namely, GPL MPEG 1/2 Decoder, System Default, InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder, and InterVideo Video Decoder. None restore the picture on Live TV.

Does anyone have suggestions? I'd sure like GBPVR up and running again.

Static points to a tuning or capture device problem rather than an video decoder. Have you checked your configured capture devices (and the aerial/cable lead for that matter).

What source have you got?

My capture device is a Hauppauge PVR 250. If I click on WinTV2000, I am able to see all the channels with very good clarity (no snow or noise). The video is derived from Comcast cable.

By the way, what I see when looking at Live TV is a dark gray background with white flakes jumping around on the screen, much the same as a TV with no antenna. There is no part of a picture visible.

Doesn't this indicate that the capture device is OK?

Is there something else I need to check in the Config program?

If you run the Tuning Assistant, does it see all you channels in the place you'd expect?

Sub,
Yes. I compared each channel found with Tuning Assistant to the corresponding channel observed on a TV set in another room which is also on the same cable.
Both tracked.

After running through all this, Live TV still doesn't work, but I'm not sure it was supposed to.

What next?

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look. Also post a comment about what channel you tried to view.

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem. I was able to view channels in Live TV this morning. I have been away for awhile, so I tried updating the Zap2it EPG. It didn't work, so, in "capture sources" in config, I removed Zap2it, installed and configured yapi2xml. the EPG works fine now, but then I found that I had no channels with Live TV, only static. Tried Tuning Assistant and got channels there, but still nothing in Live TV. What's up? Thanks for any help.....

BTW, I have a Hauppage card and WinTV works fine.

Its most likely your channel numbers are not correct in the capture source channel list.

Sub,

I checked each channel (60 of them) to see if any had video. Only one did, and that was poor. After going through the entire lot, I kept going, which started around the circle again. This time, all the channels had good video!

This led me the go back to config and this time empty the EPG (I did it three times). Then I reloaded the EPG. After that, I opened GBPVR and clicked on Live TV. The video was now restored!

Next, I clicked on TV Guide, and double clicked on an active channel. This brought up a screen which allowed me to click on Watch. I wanted to see if this was working or not. Unfortunately, it isn't. Nothing but snow. I tried to record the next new program. It recorded nothing but snow.

Any new suggestions about why Watch doesn't display video?

I tried to attach the Logs folder to this message. Hope it works OK.

This log shows you attempting to record channel 71. Does channel 71 show video in the Tuning Assistant?
