I know you certainly used to be able to use an NTSC PVR250 to record PAL shows via the composite/svideo inputs. I'm not sure if that is the case with PVR150's or not.

Maybe the 250 can handle both NTSC and PAL, but it seems that Hauppauge has completely different model numbers for the PAL version.

That still might not mean anything as the 150's also have different model numbers between the States and Canada releases...

EBay, here I come...

zehd - see this post on the Hauppauge forums...

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showpos...ostcount=3

The poster above specifically mentions the WinTV2000 app. but if this is a board/driver tweak, it may work with any application.

I went to the main forums page and did a search for 'NTSC composite' (no quotes) there are other search results which mention tweaks to configure the composite inputs to allow different standards.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Brian

I wonder if you need to be signed in - I don't think so but I'm a registered user and it signs me in automatically. The text of the post is...

Quote:Hi,
If you have bought an NTSC card then the tuner will always be NTSC, not PAL, but the composite and s-video inputs can be tweaked to run NTSC / PAL inputs in the WinTV 2000 software, and should be able to work in Media Centre, provided media centre does not detect the card as NTSC and then simply not try.

Someone on another thread mentions the 'all formats patch' which is, as far as I can tell, a registry tweak which allows selecting any format for the composite and s-video inputs. I haven't been able to find a download for the patch yet and their search engine is doing some screwy things at the moment.

Cheers,
Brian

Try this page...

http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_reg.html

See - Enable both NTSC and PAL recording for svideo/comp in under the General tricks section. There's a download link for a .REG file.

Thank you. Too bad about the tuner not being used. I know I can get a couple of STB and ir blast them independently, but I never liked that. Oh well.

Next fun will be DVB-T.

I suspect I'm going to have a lot of transition time when I get to Australia, and I'll be acting like a newbie all over again.

Good thing this forum is so active and helpful... Thanks

I know what you mean - at the moment I'm happy with the selection of channels available with Freeview and my PCI DVB-T cards are nice and simple without having to use IR blasters and external connections etc. One of the reasons I'd never want to go for a subscription cable or satellite service.

If you dislike the external STB option as you say, it may well be worth just selling your 150s in Canada and starting from scratch with DVB-T. It isn't as tricky as it seems (although implementing it for GB-PVR has given sub a few headaches in the past).

I have 4 Nova-T cards but if I was going to start from scratch I'd go with the dual tuner Nova-T models. Less heat, energy, PCI slots etc. as far as I can tell, people are using them successfully with GB-PVR.

Good luck with the move.

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks a bunch... Hey have the networks gotten better at keeping their own schedule?
