In fact, pretty much non-existant.

I was using 99.12 quite happily and for no apparent reason the sound got nerfed practically all the way to zero.

If I used Nero or Windows Media Player to play back my sounds, no problems.

Yes, the volume settings are all the way up and in the config application I have set it to Master Volume and Local Volume to no avail. I have also tried a range of software audio codecs.

Screwed up registry or summat?

An upgrade to the current version did not work 9although it is very nice!).

any thoughts?

Try deleting the following registry key if it exists.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Devnz\LastVolume

If that doesnt work, zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Where would I look for the registry? I used windows to search for the file name and it couldn't find it either. I have the same problem as helboy. What I find unusual is that I downloaded 1.0.16 and it worked beautifully -good volume, not jerky. I was surprised because others are reporting problems and I don't think my video card is all that new. Then I tried to get comskip working and it works great. Then I tried comclean and my picture in playback started getting jerky. While it probably isn't related, I took comclean off and now it seems like it is no longer jerky (but time will tell). At the same time that the picture started getting jerky (last 48 hours), the volume went to very very low. My settings in the config panel are volume=none(external) and AC3 filter decoder and SB audigy audio decoder. I tried changing to local and master volume as well as several other renderers and decoders available to me. but no difference. I need to turn my tv volume to 68 to get audible sound, I would like to check to see if I have "
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Devnz\LastVolume" but I don't know where I keep my registry keys.

The only things that I did to the computer at the time of the adverse changes was download new versions of quicktime (to get the right codec for playing .mov trailers) and adding the newest version of comclean.

If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix my low volume, I would appreciate the help.

p.s. as you may have guessed, I am not particularly knowledgeable about computers.

click on start, run, regedit
[edit] but be careful what you are doing in there. navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Devnz
then right click on the entry for Lastvolume and select delete

Warning: comclean does evil things to files and doesnt correct the timestamps after removing sections. I recommend against using it.

thanks, your recommendation is good enough for me, especially since I am not as likely to be able to deal with any problems on my own. With respect to my low volume, thank you gEd for the instructions. I was able to delete the one registry item and nothing else. Unfortunately, I still had low volume, even after I rebooted the system. Then I tried a system restore to the point before I experienced low volume and I am now back to normal volume and a clean picture.

Thank you.

Just to revive an old thread...

I had a similar problem when I updated to 1.3.7 and (coincidentally) updated my audigy driver. It turns out it was the driver's fault. It appears that Creative aren't the greatest at creating drivers, and that the newer ones seem to be worse than the older. The problem fixed when I reverted to the original CD driver. I have now switched over to onboard sound (Realtek AC'97), which seems to be working a treat.

So the moral...

Beware the updated Audigy drivers.
