Anyone know if there is a way for GB-PVR to record MPEG-4 H264 AVC Streams from VLC?

If so how would one setup the hardware for it, basically for a lot of IPTV "broadcasts" you can join the Multicast stream and bypass the STB if you know the address and port of the multicast stream. This means you don't need the PVR card for video in, maybe just for hardware encoding...

So that means you can tune into each channel and record via Ethernet completely bypassing the STB and Video-in, this should give better quality Video esp for HD.

Any idea on setup?

To get an idea of what I'm talking about see this:

More info on this:
If you can get the multicast address and port of the IP Stream, you can watch it directly (no STB) from VLS as a network stream
If there was some way to do this within GB-PVR, then we could do away with IR blasters and STB's for IP TV!

If you can get the multicast address and port number, a recording source plugin can be created for GB-PVR using a network stream source filter like DSNetwork or the elecard source filter. I did it for the HDHomeRun before the BDA drivers were release. I used the Software Recorder plugin as a starting point. I think I still have my source code somewhere (C#).

UBUstream plugin will let you do this also. It uses VLC to capture the stream and has the the option for a channel mode so that you can select it from the guide.

Can't help solve the problem, but I would definitely be interested in snarfing IPTV streams with GB-PVR.

Yup, that was the other plugin I originally used for the HDHomeRun. Then I worked on integrating it directly into GB-PVR.

If you are using Wireshark/Ethereal, it will be under the "Info" section of the packet list (top window) in the form of "source port > dest port" and also the packet details (middle window) under "Transmission Control Protocol"

What do you mean exactly? Do you want to know the port number or do you have the port number and want to capture from it?
