I have an Aver M780 dual (hybrid) tuner, digital and analog. I set up two sources, and point to separate EPG's. However, the local channel names are the same, so only one copy shows up in the EPG.

When I enter live TV, there are several channels that are supported by both cards. I prefer digital picture. If I flip from a digital-only channel to a dual channel, it will display in digital. If a flip from an analog only channel to a dual channel, it will display in analog. For example, 2 is digital, 5 is analog, 4 is both. Switching from 5 to 4 gives analog, from 2 to 4 gives digital.

I want to keep the channels on the analog tuner so that if a channel is recording in digital, live TV can still be had on analog.

How can I force, first that digital would be used for a recording, and barring a current recording, that Live TV will use digital instead of analog?

BTW, the EPG does have some higher number channels that are "for" the digital, such as FOXhd, but shows no program listings. Therefore, I put the clear QAM Fox HD tuning parameters on the regular fox slot, thus the sharing situation. But, I think it is good that it shares, so the user is not faced with a blank screen due to the digital tuner in use for something else.

Even a manual method to switch on the fly to the digital tuner would help, but automated would be better.

Perhaps there is some existing setup to facilitate this, but I have not found it yet.

Thanks

You cant tell the application which tuner to use, and I have no plans to add this feature in the future, but you can provide a preference in your configuration.

When you looking for a tuner to schedule a recording it starts at the top of the capture source list working its way down, looking for an available tuner with the required channel. LiveTV does the opposte, starting at the bottom of the capture source list working it's way up.

Thanks for the clarification. That means I should change the order of my tuners, so that recordings are digital. However, that makes liveTV analog by default. Hmmm.

I guess the purpose of the approach you outline is to give the best available source to recording, which makes sense. It would be nice with a keystroke to be able to swap tuners.

Thanks

It looks a bit funny, but you can add capture source more than once (first and last on the list). The app knows they're the same device, so it wont lead to problems with scheduling recordings or anything like that.

Sorry, its unlikely I'll ever add anything like this.

Yes, that would enable me to have digital be the priority in either case. Is there an easy way to copy all settings from one to the other? Or would I have to go through the whole mapping of EPG to real channels?

Also, since I was not recording at the time, it would appear that live TV was staying with the same tuner until I got to a channel that was only on the other tuner. I suppose if I went in through the EPG it would be different, but just flipping through, it was not giving priority to the bottom.

No.

Correct. It tries to stay with the current capture source when changing channels, since this will give much better performance than having to stop the current device and startup the other one.
