You probably don't have the proper audio decoder installed. You can use MediaInfo to find out what decoder you need.

Awesome! Finally! A *useful* program. This takes the mystery out of all these weird formats.

Well it's way late for me, off to bed. I guess I'll play some more with this tomorrow.

Thanks guys! Wink

whurlston Wrote:That remote is a "learning" remote, so you can use it to replace your MCE remote. The process is tedious though (you have to program each button you want to use). See page 31 of the Kameleon remote manual.
You might want to see if you can update the remote somehow to where it has a code for an MCE remote. There are plenty of cheap learning remotes out there that have MCE in their database if you can't upgrade it and don't want to go through teaching every single button the commands. The Harmony remotes (somewhat expensive) also have MCE in its database. A cheap $35 remote at Walmart (Aveo? Avid?) also has MCE in its database.

Well I give up on the mp4 files. They just will not play the sound.
I tried all sorts of stuff. I just don't know what to do.
So I guess I need to convert them to another format.
Is there some program that will just batch convert an entire directory of files?

On the remote.. I tried to do the learning thing.
Well, I think it's learning impaired. It sort of works but it's pretty much unreliable.
I saw something in the manual about calling radio shack and they can program it over the phone. But I don't have a regular phone, only a cell phone. Sad

It's always something...

I played with it a little this evening and checked out the youtube and net radio features. That was pretty cool. I can see that if I can ever get all the little details worked out I could really like this thing..

Well it's time for me to call it quits for the night. I'm really tired of fighting with computers for tonight..Cool

edit:

YAY!!!!!!

Just when I had given up I stumbled upon something and tried it as a last gasping effort to cling to life there.
I found something called 3ivx and installed it.
Now I can play my mp4 shows and I have sound too! Yay!
But, it says it only lasts 30 days. Booo..
But I think I can find something else between now and then..
Well it's slow to get it all going but there is a ray of sunshine on the horizon. Big Grin

You should be able to do it with VLC.

I looked at the screen shot you posted and It looks like all you need for the audio is an AAC decoder and i located a free one for you

http://www.codecs.com/download/CoreAAC_D...filter.htm

Also in the future an easy way to make sure you have almost any decoders that you might need, is to download a codec pack like this one

http://www.codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm
Server:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200
Intel GMA4500
40gb System drive 400gb Recordings drive
2gb ram
Pinncle PCTV HD PCI Capture Card
2 AverTV USB Volar ATSC HDTV Tuner
Hauppauge HD PVR
Client:
AMD Athlon 3300+
Nvidia 8600GT 256M
1Gb ram
250gb Hard Drive

In short order, this thread is already 12 pages of useful info. The swiftness and expertise and knowledge of men is amazing.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Well I think the worst is behind me now.
It was not easy but I think I'm like maybe 95% there.
Just waiting for my new switchbox to come in now.

I've been playing with gb over a pc monitor and I really do like what I can do with it. Now I can put my entire music collection at my fingertips. Smile

I'm sort of worried still about the .mp4 stuff though. I think I'm going to try to convert it to something else. I guess that mp4 is something Mac OS X related since that's what I made them all with. I use a program called visualhub to make them.
What would be the best thing to convert them to, I mean like the file type? I want my files to be able to play on any computer no matter what it is, Mac, Linux or windows.

Ahhh oh..... What a bummer. Visualhub says it will take 45 minutes to convert a 30 minute show from mp4 to avi..

Great. I knew I shouldn't have listened to him and put everything in that file type.
Guess I'll have to find a windows program to do it now. The PC sits around doing nothing 18 hours a day anyway, might as well put it to doing something useful during that time.

Anyone know of a good windows program that can batch convert stuff like this? I don't know a lot about windows stuff, just a few things.
I'm more into my Mac and my Linux pc's..

Thanks guys! Smile

I'm sure you'd be able to play these .mp4 files on your PC without any problem if you had the right decoders installed. If you have access to a web server and can make a really short 10 second clip available, I'm sure someone could look at the file and tell your what decoders you need to play it.
