JonnyCam Wrote:Ah yes, I know those people - in my experience at university, it was always the "older" students who did this - I guess all of the young people just wanted to get out of the lecture / lab asap.

I remember one lady, who when she raised her hand, or started to speak, there was a collective sigh from 300 people, and I think that included the lecturer.
A few years back we had a gal on our team for which we would do an over/under on the number of questions that she would ask during team/department meetings. Usually 15-20 was a safe starting number

Needless to say, she only lasted about a year... Oh, and I'm loving the Dallas game too. Big Grin

+1 to the "Good Riddance" camp. It seems I missed out on the drama because I too added Tipster to my ignore list (at least mentally anyway).

Quote:During my undergrad years, I was introduced to the term "crippler" by a dear friend. This is that one person in class exhibiting one or more of the following class crippling behaviors making the learning the process all but impossible:

-Constantly interrupting by thinking aloud or with off-topic, unsubstantiated or irrelevant nonsense.
-Either relating a personal experience or making some comment after the instructor finishes every theme/thought.
-Pretending to know more about any given subject than is actually the case.
-Exhibiting generally distractive behavior.

This breed can be found in almost all classrooms and usually make themselves known within minutes, however, these people graduate and make their way into the mainstream where they are slightly more difficult to identify, but hardly less distracting. You know you're in the presence of a crippler if everyone cringes or rolls their eyes when the individual speaks. Rest assured, time spent in the presence of said person will have a detrimental affect on the whole. Engaging and/or encouraging them usually ends up in further frustration. They do not respond to subtlety as they tend to exist in realm of reality where, surely, common sense is dictated by an imaginary friend and freedom of speech is construed as entitlement. The concept of "eating crow" is far too abstract to comprehend facilitating their frequent outbursts.

Classic! I love this explanation. It is so fitting.
