I've recently started getting regular problems with zero length recordings on a Nova-T-500 dual tuner (single antena input). I thought I would see if there was any sort of pattern, so...

I took a backup and copied empty.db3 over the top of gbpvr.db3. I added the first tuner and scanned for channels - it found all the channels on the first mux, but no channels on the other 5 muxes. I added the second tuner and scanned - it found all the channels on all 6 muxes.

Since both tuners share the same antena and cable, I'm assuming that it's a hardware problem...Sad unless anybody has any other ideas...

It's a bit strange (understatement?).

I'm assuming when you first set up the tuners for the card, you originally had a full set of channels for each...or at least more than just those for one MUX on one tuner.

Have you tried this a few times with the same results?

Cheers,
Brian

Yeah, pretty odd. Can you also post the config.exe-native.log that matches the config.exe.log?

You might be able to do a bit more analysis with this tool:

This one was tweak for UK use (Can't remember the changes) http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=12082

It is good to check signal levels. I do remember reading that some of the early nova-t-500 had a difference in sensitivity between the two tuners and they were replaced under warranty

Brian:

It's only in the last week or so that I've seen this problem - previously I was able to use both tuners - watch and record or record two at the same time. I did notice early on in the life of the card that the strength and signal quality were different for each tuner - but it was working and I didn't really want to pester the forum - I had more important problems with which I needed help.

logs attached

Thanks for that, I'll have a look... I pointed TSReaderLite at it and can get in to the first mux, but can't get anything from the other 5 muxes. I'll see if I can get anything more out of ScanChannel

The cause of the problem isnt clear in the logs. I'll be interested to know how that scan utility gets on.

I ran ScanChannel against each tuner... looks like signal strength/quality on first tuner is not good enough to lock on to.

The card has only one antena input - maybe I need to push the plug further in Big Grin

Strange that one tuner would be ok. Might be worth talking to Hauppauge about it.

So we are happy that it's not something daft that I've done...

I'm sure it's less than a year old so I should be able to take it back (let's see what PC World's after sales service is like), but it might be fun asking Hauppauge about it.

Alex

edit: plenty warranty left - bought from PC World on 04/06/07 - I wonder if Konrad still works there...
