install trouble

Downloaded the latest release (i have no previous installed versions)

installed .net 2.0 and the microsoft runtime

try to install the gbpvr and i get "Internal Error 2721. WiseUpgradeCheck" and then "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

downloaded another copy of the installer and get that this is not a valid installer file message.

about the machine

fresh install of XP sp2 and the only installed software is the ATI software for the AGP video card used for playback. no decoder card yet, just using playback to get a feel right now.

after i couldn't install the first 2 versions, i cleaned out the msi crap with the windows installer cleanuo utility - maybe a mistake.

i have tried versions 10008.msi and 10016.msi as well and they also give the "not a valid install file" or whatever message as well.

any help would be great,

I've not seen any other reports of problems. If its failed on all three of these versions of the installer then maybe something is wrong with the Windows MSI Installer on your machine.

Have you downloaded and installed all available XP updates?

On the WIKI, under installation notes, it says:

* If you get an Error 1270.

There is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this installer to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
You may resolve it by first installing ‘Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP’ from the Microsoft site and than try again. Windows Installer 3.0

The Windows Installer3.0 has a link to the free download from microsoft

ok, so i downloaded the msi for a third time and it worked. it was just bad luck, i think. so far it seems to be running great on the HDTV via the video card.
