I'm using the blaster that came with the pvr 150 kit. It's attached to my STB and every slight movement would cause it to stop transmitting correctly.
Are there any stronger blasters available, or any other solution?

You need an IR blaster and not the blaster that comes with the pvr150. Hopefully someone will chime in with a supplier.

I have the IR blaster that came with this kit, and it's working fine as long as I hold the blaster close and tight against the STB. When I stop pressing it against the box, it would not change the channels since the signal is very weak.

Call Hauppauge and tell them that you got a bad blaster. They had a bad batch of them and will replace it for free. You should be able to hold the blaster a few inches in front of the STB and it should still work. You also can use the old IR led from an old remote. Also check out SmartHome.com. They have TONS of blasters and repeaters etc.

Yeah, you can buy one of these things:

and just add whatever connector the PVR 150 uses (I guess it's probably a 2,5mm mono connector) and you should be sweet - not nearly as neat as the flat blasters that come with the MCE & haup gear - but it works (I have several blasters connected to my usbuirt using these diodes)

One thing you might have to look at is the "pass through" for a smoked lens like this one - does it allow all of the IR signals from your remote to work while it's attached to front of the box.

The IR blaster that comes with the Hauppauge kit is mostly visible, It isn't that strong in IR leading to the crappy range. I replaced one for a friend here at work and with an IR diode he gets > 10 ft now.

Thanks for the guiding.
I don't mind trying a different emitter before contacting Hauppauge.
would one of these work for me:
http://www.smarthome.com/8174-ir-blaster.html
http://www.smarthome.com/8170.html

By working I mean - are they compatible with the equipment I have from Hauppauge and would they send a stronger signal than the one I have now?

As for the diode - I'm sure it would do the job but no way my wife is gonna let me put it in our living room

Probably, but they don't list the frequency range of the diode so no guarantee. Also, I can't remember if the PVR150 has a resistor on the circuit board or whether the diode has a built in resistor to limit the current. Hopefully it is built on the circuit board. Does anyone know/remember?

The PVR150 has a wierd plug (or mine does) to handle the emitter and receiver.
What I did was to steal an IR emitter from an old TV remote control and replace the visible light LED that came with tyhe 150. Much better, although you can't see it winking anymore unless you watch through a digital camera viewfinder!
