I can setup a manual recording to record a channel Mon to Fri, at the same time, for one hour. No problem.

But, when you setup a recording in that way, you don't get that option of how many of the recordings to keep. So, if I'm not around to constantly erase them, my Recordings directly fills up quickly.

I hope this question makes sense. When you setup a recording using the EPG, you do get that option of how many recordingds to keep.

If anyone can help, my harddrive would appreciate it.!!

Sorry, thats just the way it works. You only get this option for recordings scheduled via shows in the tv guide. I may add it for manual recordings in a future release.

I'm one of those lame users who only uses the computer to record one show every day, as a backup in case my tv's pvr doesn't work. Yes, the computer is more reliable. But the tv gives me HDTV.

Anyways, since the free listings went away (I'm in Canada), I figured it wouldn't mean much to me since I just need to record one channel Mon to Fri at 4:30pm. But since I don't normally watch the one that records on the computer, the recordings keep building up. At top quality, 4GB per recording (one hour show), adds up pretty quickly.

I end up having to remember once in a while to delete unnecessary recordings. I wonder if there's another way to do this. Like, maybe just through Windows, I can do something so a certain folder doesn't get too big? If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I just want to go back to a "set it and forget it" method.

I sense a batch file coming on......

I'd use a program called XXcopy - which started out as an extended version of the DOS xcopy command (hence the name) but now is more of command line file management tool). It's free for personal use on single computer. It's a very useful tool.

Get it from the above url and install.

It has bewildering variety of switches to control the behaviour, (This page is useful in getting to grips with it)but of interest here is the /RS switch which will delete files in the source directory (no need to copy them)

so something like this should do the job:

Code:
xxcopy C:\recording_directory\  /RSY /DB#7 /PDO

This should delete all files from C:\recording_directory\ older than 7 days

/RSY - Delete from the source - Y suppresses file deletion prompts

/DB#7 - files older than 7 days

/PDO - suppresses the process this directory prompt (note it's a trailing zero not letter O

Stick the line in a text file.

Call it something like removerec.bat and then set up a scheduled task in windows to run it every week or whatever
