Hi,

I know it's Christmas Eve, but one does these things when there's a moment! :-)

First of all - Happy Christmas & New Year to all.

I'm running 1.1.5 on:

Windows XP Pro SP2 plus all bits & pieces.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2Gb ram
NVidia GeForce 6200 256Mb ram

Twin Hauppage Nova-T PCI 90002
Separate external aerial input.

Logs attached.

Problem:

When I try to watch Live TV all programs are very jerky and unwatchable.
Recorded programs are great. Occasionally I get gaps & distortion on Freeview channels, but basically watching recorded programmes is fine. It's just the live stuff which is all wrong.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Nothing stands out in the logs, but I'd try the normall stuff like changing audio/video decoders etc.

Sub,

Thanks for you reply.

"Normal" means one thing to you and quite another to me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I actually said it above but you seem to have focused on the wrong part of my sentence. The normal cause of problems relating video playback are the choice of video decoder and/or audio decoders, so the first thing you should do is try some other audio/video decoders to see if you get a combination.

You're using the 'system default' decoder option, which effectively tells Windows to pick some random decoder. This can work alright for some machines, but others have problems with this. Its better to explicitly select a decoder rather than relying on system default.

If you try some and still have problems, then let me know what decoders you tried exactly.

Sub,

Thanks for the advice.

I've tried the decoders listed on my pc individually and in combination - without success.

These are my decoders:

Video:

InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder
Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
Nero Video Decoder
MPEG Video Decoder

Audio:

MPEG Audio Decoder
CyberLink....
InterVideo NonCSS...
Nero Digital Audio ....

A couple of these combinations just froze Live TV. Mind you, little worth watching early on Boxing Day morning - unless you're a grandchild, which I'm not. :-)

Thanks

Have you tried Dscaler - its free and I found that it gives me the smoothest playback of SDTV on a CRT TV. It also gives me the 2nd clearest playback. Nvidia codec giving me the clearest which is the codec I am currently trialling in combination with AC3 filter.

Since I have upgraded to the new PVRX2 interface and stopped using overlay I must admit that I have found getting smooth playback somewhat temperamental and find it to be a case of try and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions - which I have tried.

The DScaler package I did not like. Not much comfort in software which threatens you with all sorts of problems - sort of "try it and hope" stuff. I don't think so. It didn't do the job anyway.

The nVidia package was no better.

So, jerky tv remains. Any more suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Robin
