I saw those 2 files referenced in another post, but I don't know what to do with them, especially the first one. When I tried to run it, it said it required KB888795 which is the first rollup for XP MCE, but I can't install that since I don't actually have XP MCE. So I tried to just pull out the irbus.sys etc. files as you instructed for the Rollup 2 update, but that gave me the same results as before, with Windows reporting that it could not find the software for my hardware. In any case, I would guess that the Rollup 2 update files are more recent and would have included any changes from the Rollup 1 update.

Hey, I got the receiver to install! I got a hint from a posting on another forum where someone talked about the VID and PID from the IR receiver not matching any of the ones in the irbus.inf file. So following his lead, I went to Device Manager, opened the Properties for the MCE transceiver and looked at the Details page to get the VID and PID, which were VID_0609 and PID_0334. Then I edited the irbus.inf file to add these lines with my VID/PID in the appropriate sections of the file:

%USB\VID_045E&PID_006D.DeviceDesc%=IrBus_V2, USB\VID_0609&PID_0334
and
ExcludeFromSelect=USB\VID_0609&PID_0334

Once I did that, Windows was able to match up my device to the irbus.sys driver and install it. So now the device says it's working and I see the receiver blink a red light whenever I press a button on the remote. Next I'll have to see if I can get the remote to do something useful!

Thanks for your help.

im sure others will read this and it will help them

it should all just work now if you select mce remote in gbpvr config

Use the drivers from the link I provided, they're the ones I'm using with my XP+SP2.
I use EventGhost to drive my MCE remote.

I tried the remote but it doesn't do anything in GBPVR. Maybe it's because it's a newer version than what GBPVR is expecting? I will take a look at EventGhost this weekend and see if that helps.

I've got the same hardware and got about to the same point where you are. I managed to get so gbpvr would respond to the MCE remote commands, however, I had the problem known as "sticky keys", in which every key you press would repeat until you hit another key.

If you get it working completely please post what you did.

Hi, I use HIP to control my GPPVR HTPC. HIP comes with a replacement driver for the MCE IR receiver. Once I configured HIP, I was able to control my HTPC with the MCE remote AND my Logitech Harmony remote.

They work superb. I also configured the HTPC to enter standby mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. Now I can even wake up the HTPC from standby (yep, S3 mode with all fans and LEDs off) from the couch!

If you are interested, I could post my HIP configuration files and help you with the setup.

HIP can be downloaded from here:
http://www.byremote.com.au/downloads/def...SCLASS=HIP

(download one of the two packages at the top of that page)
