Has anyone tried this or any thoughts on implementations?

I know there are services such as http://www.aql.com/site/howitworks4.php which act as SMS to Email gateways, so I guess the issue is having a pluging which can check a POP3 inbox and scan a message.

Say "Channel No","Start Time","Stop Time","Date". So to record BBC1 for an hour from 8PM on 25th January is:

01,2000,2100,25-01-08

Ah, just a random thought. Came about after I discovered my OperaMini client on my phone lets me view the EWA but can't seem to set any recordings.

Anyhow, any thoughts on this appreciated.

I have a T-Mobile phone (they provide an SMS/email gateway) and I've gone through the same process as you describe.

Unfortunately, it would require more than a plugin for it to be of general use to people. Plugins only work when the UI is open so it would need an external exe permanently running or a Windows Service.

I tried this with a simple test exe but came to the conclusion that a lot of the functionality WRT setting recordings etc., is only available to plugins. The way around this for an external exe/service is to write directly to the DB - not difficult but not generally an approved way of doing things. It would also require a lot more coding than you'd think (consideration of potential conflicts etc. etc).

Nice idea - it's on my back-burner list but never made it further than that.

Cheers,
Brian

GBPVR produces a recordings-dump.xml every night. This file contains all recordings, recurring recordings and single recordings. It can be imported in GBPVR with the GBPVR.exe -import command line. Hence if you write a recodings-dump.xml file with just the recording you want to program and invoke the command line you should be done.

I just had a quick look at this and the dump xml file doesn't seem to contain either manual or one-off recordings so it's not clear how it would be possible to use this approach in the way NumberFive describes.

It looks like it would be possible to use it to set a Season recording although there is a 'group' attribute which would need to be hacked. This would be possible by parsing the previous dump to find the highest group number then simply using the next highest. I generally don't like doing this sort of thing in case it interferes with the way that GB-PVR does things.

Cheers,
Brian

What exactly happens when you try and set a recording?

I have set many recordings from OperMini (v3 & v4)
I know it was a bit hit-or-miss if it popped the correct page up to me when clicking a show name to get a recording (as it's a popup window, sometimes the Opera servers loaded the original page instead) but that seems to have decreased quite a bit with V4.
