sorry didnt mean to put you off its not that bad i just didnt want you going out thinking it was going to be way better cause in my opinion it is better but you get new problems

others havent had that many problems maybe its just the dodgy hardware i got
it will be interesting what the dvb-t is like

you should just need a new video card not whole new system to record and watch HD stuff
if you look at what sub said the machine with 2600hd (H.264 hardware decode) only had 5% cpu so a lesser pc would maybe still cope

OK, just swatted up on the vid card - could cope with that. They're not that pricey.

But we still have a dog's breakfast with having two signal sources (SKY/Freeview) to select between. It's going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back from a complexity point of view.

Yep, going to wait a bit. Thanks for input, guys.

Well, I was able to play the sample clip, but not within GBPVR. I could use PowerDVD and that was fine - but in GBPVR, it gave me the first frame and never played anything.

If I skipped forward it went to whatever should have been at that time -but only a still again. In PowerDVD, it played through, with a minor stutter right at the start.

I'll look at getting one of the HD2400 AGP cards and see how it gfoes - surprisingly inexpensive - but what type of stability problems are we talking here Sub? (I have enough of those with my hardware while watching recordings as Comskip finishes)

Thanks Stu - would have been another headache with a poor mpeg card - as it is I'll be sneaking the new card into the machine while my partner is out.....

yip thats what i did but then she noticed the jumpiness Smile

the new ati drivers were as bad as the nvidia ones but been a new card the older drivers didnt work they may have it sorted by now this was about 2 months ago
the card seemed to get real hot to compared to my fanless nvidia 6600 card
another reason for going for gruntier card they dont work as hard meaning cooler Smile
