What settings can I use on Handbrake to process my DVD to play on the MVP so I don't have to transcode in realtime?
Currently Running: 1.4.7

I've never used Handbrake, so not familiar with its capabilities, but if you want to be able to play DVD is on your MVP without and transcoding, then the movie will need to ripped to an MPEG2 video file, with MPEG1 Layer 2 audio.

You say MVP can do DivX files using the Hauppauge components.
Will it do xVid or H.264?

Is there another program that is good at converting the DVD into a file that we can see on the MVP?

It cant do DivX natively. The only file types that the MVP can play are MPEG1/MPEG2/MP3. Everything else is transcoded on the fly.

Right, but with the Hauppage software on the server, besides transcoding DivX, what can the software transcode.

I was just trying to avoid other transcoding schemes, because so far nothing has worked for me.

I dont know what types of files the Hauppauge software can transcode on the fly for playback on the MVP. GB-PVR uses an entirely different scheme.

Divx and xvid work for transcoding back to mpeg2. H.264 (or x264 usually) will never work unless you have very powerful hardware.

I would not transcode to divx of xvid if you can store the mpeg2. Then just convert the DVD to identical bitate mpeg2 retaining quality. There are lots of programs out there which can do so just pick whatever you like (I use VLC but this is definitely not the easiest way).

Could you give me more details? I'm sure it's been done, I've read tons of posts about it. But I can't seem to get it to work for me.

I have a DVD. I have an MVP. I know that I have to save the DVD video to a file.

I'm just not sure of the process. If you have a walk through, a good clear post I missed, or something like that let me know. You can see my hardware specs in my post. If I need to upgrade my RAM I can do that.

you can use the video archive plugin to rip the dvd to an mpeg file.
