When trying to watch Eurosport Nordic I get both Finnish and Norwegian audio at the same time!

Here is the line for that channel in the scan cache
T:12476,H,27800,34~NID:70~ONID:70~TSID:21~P:905~V:513~A:645~L:nor~PMT:258~TXT:577~E:T~PCR:513~N:>Eurosport (Audio #2)

However, checking lyngsat.com apid a:645 if used both for Finnish and Norwegian. As is A:644 is for both Swedish and Danish:

T:12476,H,27800,34~NID:70~ONID:70~TSID:21~P:905~V:513~A:644~LConfusedwe~PMT:258~TXT:577~E:T~PCR:513~N:>Eurosport

I see om the menu of my STB I have the option to set 1st.audio language, 2nd audion langueage, 1st subtitle, 2nd subtitle. All of these give the option of setting, English, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish.

I wonder how the STB "spilts" these 2 audio's on the same apid? All the other info for the 2 channels are the same?

How do I fix this in GBPVR? Any ideas?

Thanks

Sorry, there is nothing in GB-PVR that could cope with this situation.

I might be able to add something in future, but you'd probably need to supply a sample file.

maybe they're putting one language on left ch. and one on right?
stb would just use the side that you chose and output it on both as dual mono.
pay with the balance control and see if that's the case.
otherwise yea, not sure how anything would differentiate..

tho here, with MTS we can have more than one audio and cc chanel simulcast somehow...tho doubt it's same way..[dedicated hardware multiplexing for MTS]

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can find out how it is done. I bet its something to do with the DVB subtitles that are used to switch the correct sound. Could be wront though, don't know engough about this stuff, yet!

Sub, If you want a sample file, how big?

Back to the old 150-STB-Blaster setup, It's quite good actually!

It'll most likely be as pBS suggest, with the left channel carrying one language and the right one carrying the other.

I've never heard of a single other DVB station that has both language streams carried in the one audio stream (pid). Why they didnt do the standard DVB thing of putting each language in its own stream ....

50mb or so would be good.

Update on findings. The two audio's (Finnish=F and Norwegian =N) are sent on each channel. I think N is on left and F is on right (or vice versa) I've played with dvb dream and GBPVR and if I set the balance in Volume control to left I get just Norwegian, but of course just on the left speaker Sad I tried to set the Intervideo audio codec setting to left (options are:Both, left, right, none) but the settings don't stick, it just reverts to both. Not that this would help as again I would only get sound out of one speaker.

The stb must have some sort of left or right "mono" to both channels on output to scart or spdif depending on which language one chooses in the STB's setting.

This looks like a no go for pvr software unless some sort of advanced setting could be applied to the said channel. Like use left channel and conver to stereo, if you get my drift!

Another option would be to get another LNB to pull in Eurosport Germany from Astra 1F, but I thing this is analog. Not sure if this will work on my card. Here are the channel settings 11259 V tp 4, video encrypTongueAL, NID-TID
Audio 7.02 E (English) I have been told that this is FTA channel?

What do you think?

I think its pretty bizarre that they're doing that with DVB when they could have easily just added a separate audio stream for each language. They used to do things like this for analog, and may still have that somewhere in the process that feeds the satellite service. Yuck.

Given I've never heard of another DVB channel doing this, its probably not worth changing GB-PVR to support this. Its a lot of effort for very little payback. Sorry.

Thanks for your quick replies, thought as much, I 've asked the provider as to why, but I expect no reply or a reply avoiding the question! How about my other option with Astra? Anyone?

Got a bit more tech info on how its done, not that it helps and you probably know this anyway.

The audio is MPEG1 dual_channel or dual mono. There is a signal that corresponds to what language is on which track. The stb uses the track (language) that the user has chosen in the menu. The output is the same on both channels, no stereo.

Hoping I'm not talking to myself here!

Did some more testing and I've nealy foud the solution. As I said earlier in the thead, I tried to set the Intervideo audio VOCAL setting to left (options are:Both, left, right, none) but the settings don't stick, it just reverts to both. I also stated incorrectly that this would only output to one speaker. I tried this with DVBdream and It works! by setting the vocal option to left, I get the correct language out on both speakers!

However the only way I can get this to work in GBPVR is to start live tv in windowed mode, fire up config, and "apply" the "left" option. The moment I click OK it reverts to "Both" The same if I do it correctly by opening cofig and OK'ing the setting, it just goes to both. In DVBdream the setting is lost only when exiting Dvbdream.

Seem like a prob with Intervideo audio codec?

Can some of you other out there check your audio decoders to see if there are other version that have the vocal settings and that they work. The only one I've found is the intervideo. I have AC3, Cyberlink, Dscaler, Mpeg, and some others, I'm at work and don't remember.

Thanx
