Tweaking the video settings of streamed videos.

I am still mucking my way through the streaming options (just installed gb-pvr today)

The default streaming means the vid quality is terrible. I changed the settings as per this thread: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=30957

However, when I change to those settings, I am clearly getting dropped frames. I noticed the "server" is using VLC to stream to my client, also using vlc. VLC on the server is using 50% cpu, but it never seems to go above that. That is peculiar, especially in light of the poor performance/dropped frames.

Can someone help me see the light (and a better streamed tv )

btw, the server is a AMD 5600x2 (2.8 ghz)

Is this internal network streaming or external network streaming?

What is the amount of RAM on your server?

This is an internal lan on gigabit ethernet. Server has 2 gigs of ram.

With that you shouldn't be having dropped frames.....are you receiving the video on the client via wired or wireless connection? I have this occur periodically when using a wireless connection.

You could up the priority of the VLC service on the server via the streamer process priority setting.

I upped the priority to normal on the server, and that didnt change the quality of the vid (dropped frames/choppy), additionally, it didnt increase the cpu useage, which I believe it should have.

It really acts like there is a cap of some sort preventing it from using more than 50% cpu.

Not that is enforced or controlled by EWA.....

Try changing the priority via the Windows Services program......right click on the vlc process that gets started up and see if you can manually change it.

Have you tried accessing the stream on the server itself.....if it is choppy there then you can rule out a network issue....if it is not choppy on the server then it is the network.

If it is choppy on the server then try changing the settings....change from H264 to MPEG2 or MPEG4, try changing the video encoder to default....lower audio bit rates....use MP3 audio encoding....
