Skin vs Skin2 question

Just re-building my GBPVR server from scratch with the latest software and trying to understand the Skin/Skin2 usage.

I thought GBPVR used the Skin directory and PVRX2 used Skin2

I was playing around trying to get the Sudoku plugin to work and copied the skin into skin\sudoku. Everyting works fine on the PC but not on the MVP. I'm using PVRX2 on both. I then realised that PVRX2 uses the Skin2 directory and needs modified skin files (not available ). So no hope of it just working.

What's puzzling me is if PVRX2 uses skin2, why does it work on the PC if the plugin skin files are only copied under the skin directory?

All the new GUI stuff uses Skin2, including all the default screens in PVRX2 etc. All the new plugins also use skin2. However, if you use PVRX2 to load one of the old GBPVR plugins (written for GBPVR, and using the old GUI stuff), it'll look in the 'skin' directory for its skin settings.

I'm pretty sure the Sudoku was written for the old GUI, so will look for its files in the 'skin' directory.

What seems odd to me is that PVRX2 works fine on the PC with the old skin files but on the MVP it just bombs out when you select Sudoku from the menu and drops the connection. (Works on the MVP if I go back to using the old GBPVR).

Yes, sort of. I could have forced it to look in the skin2 directory, but I didnt want to mix the old and new format skin files in same directory, so it was tidier to keep them in separate skin and skin2 directories.

Solved it thanks Sub.

Found the start of the error in the logs. It was complaining it couldn't find the path to the skin C:\.... devnz\gbpvr\skin\default\Sudoku.

Activeskin:default.

Changed the MVP skin to Blue and Bingo. Looks like the use of "Default" in the MVP config doesn't have the desired behaviour for this plugin.

Just need to fix Solitaire now (WAF earache!!!)
