In WinTV, there is a setting that allows me to use a VCR to transfer VHS tapes to my hard drive. Can I do this in GB-PVR, as well?

You're probably just better off using WinTV for this type of task.

Well, I don't like WinTV. That's why I switched to GB-PVR. WinTV forces you to use Hauppauge's audio and video decoders.

How do you connect your VCR RF or Composite.
What is your Tuner card, does it do the above?

If RF, then Just setup a new channel. If composite, setup a new source. No EPG needed.
You will probably need an editor later to trim the beginning and ending.

you could just set up a new capture source (composite or svideo in)
then do a manual recording then press play on video
is that what you are talking about

As a side note, this is possible. It just might be not as convenient as WinTV's software.. Just follow what the poster above me said.

I've been transfering my tapes using gbpvr.

I use the component inputs and record via a manual recording. Just hook up the VCR to them, hit play on the VCR, via Live TV tune to a channel you've setup for the component inputs in config, and hit the record button on the remote. This pops up a dialog and I choose to record for specific duration, enter the time and click the Record button when the tape gets to the spot I want to start the recording. After the recording is done, I rename the manual recording file to the movie name and move it to my Video Library folder.

Works well.

Same here, bought an extra backplate connector for my PVR150 as this only has one audio input. Added the VCR as a channel. Have lots of old kids VHS tapes, press 99 on the remote and play on the Vcr. My 3 year old loves putting vids in the machine and watching blurry films! Aaaa the days of analog!

I added the VCR as a channel, and see nothing but snow in live TV. How do I set up a new capture source? Which settings do I choose?

add capture source (you can have more than one per device)
say another pvr150(or what ever you card is)
select no epg
then edit the capture source
compisite or svideo is the easiest but if you want to use rf
then you need to work out what frequency your video puts out if doing it this way you could just add a channel
to find the frequency use the tuner assistant and write down the number that your video shows up at then add that as the channel number
(the tuning assistant is the gbpvr folder)
