HW monitor app

Looking for a reliable HW monitoring app, pref freeware (but will probably pay), that isn't fancy.

I want one to just keep an eye on temps (MB, CPU, HD), and run a cmd (a powerdown bat I have) or shutdown if a threshold is reached. I have an always-on box, but there is no auto-shutdown for heat in bios.

I have HW Monitor now, but it turned back on a low-power option that was causing visual distortion, so I'm not trusting it anymore.

Not looking for something to cool, etc. Just want a fire marshall, basically.

MBM = mother board monitor, it works with one of the plugins, and works with jaLCD (which is the reason i use it), its freeware, works with about 98% of motherboards, cpus, ram, etc etc. really really good, and really really free.

MBM (ver 5) is the best way to go. I use it to monitor my PVR system. You can see the awesome logging in action here:

Oh yeah, and It can run programs, etc if some temperature is reached/exceeded, or if your fans stop working, etc. It can shutdown, email you, etc, etc. In my example it posts to my site, you can see 2 of the warnings there.

I gave MBM a whirl, but even though I told it to check, it won't give me HD info. I'll poke around it more. I've also used speedfan in the past, but it has no execute options I can find. Maybe the newer version has it.

I found the options to shut off what was the problem w/ hmonitor, but I'm not using it at the moment. Making sure it's off aside, I have to say it is a good monitor overall. If nothing else, it is the fastest/most responsive of the apps I've tried.

Thx for the feedback, all. I got my cooling under control (only HDs were the issue, really). Now when idle, everything from case to cpu to HD all run 80-95F.

There is DTemp which is free if you want to check your hdd temp.
