I have noticed some of my mpgs displaying the TimeStamp issue, but they always happen when I'm working on my computer in the evening. Lately I've been working on a new version of ZProcess, and I've been playing with CPU priorities for the transcoder (ffmpeg or mencoder) Sometimes, when I would accidentally bring my system to its knees, I would note the time. And sure enough, the recordings would be all messed up right when I was messing around.

On the flip flop, My ex wifes computer is never used when it's recording, and it never misses a beat.

I don't mean 'use it' like checking email or something. I mean processor intensive stuff like transcoding (at above normal CPU) or rendering a video with a Video app, or solving the world's energy crisis, but firing up the dusty old fusion reactor from your garage...

I've noticed it tends to happen when both my tuners are recording and I'm watching one of the currently recording shows behind real time and skipping back and forth a lot so I guess the "active" theory applies.

Windows is not a real time OS, so running real time apps on it will occasionally result in odd behavior. And your CPU can only perform X amount of work in a given time. The instant that the work to be performed becomes X+1, something gets delayed and Windows just doesn't do a very good job of deciding which "something" that is going to be. Wink

Defragging may help if the disk is a bit "busy" with multiple writes and reads. Certainly seems to quieten down the seek noises when I get round to it.

I guess it does help telling windows to give priority to back ground services, but it still doesn't help me when I'm playing and grinding things to a halt.

Perhaps I should stop doing that...

I just installed an HVR 1600 along with upgrading GBPVR from 98.13 to 1.1.5 (I was happy with it, ok?, it didn't list the 1600 though) and it looks like the timestamp issue came back for me. It may be as a result of uninstalling/reinstalling the Hauppauge drivers (it can be a pain getting them to play nice together), or the GBPVR upgrade. Dunno, all I know is that I need to run dbgview for awhile and see what it comes up with.

Do I have the pvr150 timestamp issue?

I just wanted to confirm the issue I'm having is in fact the timestamp issue.

I'm running a hauppauge pvr 150 tuner card using the drivers that come with card. My recordings are fine 99.9% of the time when I am not watching what ever is recording. when I try to watch a show that has already started recording ff and rw jump randomly around the recording and although the recording finishes 100% the time on it will be a random time like 5min on a 30min recording. thanks for any help.

Matt

oh almost for got if i use com skip it just crops out random parts of the recording and the quality is not great

I installed whatever the "latest" drivers were at the end of Jan 2008. I am getting the timestamp issue for sure.

Do you recommend trying the regedit also? I haven't done that yet.

You still need the registry settings to resolve it.
