Question Regarding LiveTv Usage

A quick question: Let's say the Knicks game I'd want to watch (shocking with my name I know) starts at 7:30pm and ends at 9:30. But I'd like to start watching it at 8:30 and skip all the commercials. I could do live tv, but it'd get boring to watch a blank screen for an hour. With so many shows recorded I'd rather view one of those for an hour, so my question is how do I do this?

It seems that when I leave the live tv screen, the recording stops. If I do it as a scheduled record it doesn't show up in the menu until completed. So those two seem to be out. Any suggestions or is this not possible?

A scheduled recording that has started recording will show up as "recording" when you click the pending button.  If you then select the "recording" show you have the option to play it from the beginning and it will keep recording as you watch.  You can then skip through the commercials and you may even catch up to real time, it just depends on how long you let it record before you start watching.
