No, I didn't see that. The reviewer seems ready to wet himself. Maybe I'll wait a month or so and see what happens. By that time we should know what the next gen Asus machines look like.

In any case, I'm not going near vista for at least another year. My work laptop is three years old but I keep turning down offers of a new one so I can stay with XP.

Yeah, I don't blame you. I ran Vista Enterprise at work for a little over a year. I built a new computer with all "Vista certified" components in hopes my experience would be a pleasant one since I would be testing/preparing our environment it as new machines trickle in with it installed. I don't get how they can say something Vista certified when the drivers are buggy and cause problems. It took about 2 months till the driver's stablized and after that, it was pretty fast. But it seemed i spent more time trying to get software to run on it or manage our Active Directory and find things didn't work or became dreadfully slow (like remotely managing a client thru computer management). The more I used it the more I hated it. Once my one year anniversary was up, I wiped the drive and installed XP x64 and haven't looked back. I think Vista is fine for light home use (my mom is running it on her new laptop), but IMO, it has no place in business.

I thought I would chime in on your little sidebar about vista. I have been running vista for over a year both at work (when I was an IT tech at the university I went to school at) and on my home machine, and I have to say overall I have had very few problems with it. The only real problem I had with it was when using pptp to remote from my work computer to my dorm room's network, after a a while the machine would bluescreen and it was always something with the network either the cards driver or a component of the windows subsystem.

But back to the original topic I dont really need to umpc but I would like to get one
even though I just bought a asus tablet pc in november, besides that my better half probably would be a little upset if I got one more computer

I'm hoping they offer it with an 8GB SSD, 1GB RAM for no more than $500.

If you're checking out the umpcs I would suggest looking at the Raeon Everun or OQO Model 02. The OQO is really pretty pricey but it's tiny enough to fit in your pocket and the everun is a little bigger with a slower cpu but has a really long battery life. It looks like LG is coming out with a pretty cool looking one as well in August they have it on that umpcportal.com if you look around. They're not supposed to be sold in the US but http://www.dynamism.com has some. I've been kind of fascinated lately by the idea of having a pocket sized PC. I don't like the lack of storage on PDAs and the lack of functionality on PMPs. I don't know why some of these companies like MS, Apple or even Archos don't make their PMPs with full PC functionality. A lot of them have the processing power to do it they just don't design the software to go with them.
