Mediaportal http://www.team-mediaportal.com

It looks like it borrowed alot from GBPVR. It also doesn't look as "together".

MediaPortal has been around pretty much as long as GB-PVR. I think GB-PVR is about 4 months older.

Tried it once right before I first started using GBPVR. Didn't like it but I did like some of the skins and add-ons but now, there's no comparison.:o

That's what I thought as well (just by looking around on the website..I didn't use it). Looks like community skin, lol.

It looks and "moves" pretty slick, and is good for what it is, but imo GBPVR is more stable, particularly for TV. TV seems a bit like an afterthought with MP. They're working on a new version, so maybe that will clean things up.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

MediaPortal is cool but it does not have mutiple XMLTV support and it does not have the unique SearchWiz2 and Moviewiz plugins and thus MediaPortal will never be useful to me...

it does have a killer mp3 system and I use MediaPortal regularly to play my 80 gig mp3 collection on the tube. Nothing online comes close to how cool that is and it's the easiest to navigate my mp3's through my remote and view album covers.

PVRX2's use of the on-screen guide and super convenient scheduling is a treat.

MediaPortal uses DVR-MS file format. DVR-MS embeds the movie info into the file format making it desirable for movie collections as info moves with the file.

That was basically my impression also, like there were two many development 'threads' and features but not enough core stability. IMO the PVR functionality should be priority 1 by a very LARGE margin. On the plus side MP is open source and it does seem to have a larger community of developers and users. Ironically GBPVR is more stable and GBPVR support is head and shoulders way above MP (IMO). Just pray nothing ever happens to sub or he decides to pursue other interests cuz we'll be screwed Big Grin

Since you mentioned it, the BlueMCE2 theme (and same named original standalone GB-PVR skin) uses images from a Mediaportal skin under the GPL License. They and their community deserve credit for many outstanding skins.

Here is the quote from the GB-PVR BlueMCE2 skin's readme.txt file.
Code:
=======================
GBPVR Skin: BlueMCE2
Author: jmoger <jcm21_ at _cornell dot edu>
=======================

=======================
Credits
=======================
Most images come from the MediaPortal project (http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net)

Some images come from other GBPVR plugins (My Music, My Pictures, My Videos)
and originate from Everaldo, the famed KDE icon designer.

The WeatherChannel.com image is (c) WeatherChannel.com.

=======================
License
=======================
The images from MediaPortal are licensed under the GPL.

The images from Everaldo are licensed under the GPL.

The WeatherChannel.com image is (c) WeatherChannel.com.

The skin is a derived from the original Blue skin.  I'm not sure how the Blue skin is
licensed.  The GPL is cloudy to me when it comes to text files, images, and interpreted
byte-code.  So I'll say that whatever GBPVR's Blue skin license applies to this skin as
well.

The CommunitySkin uses the same acknowledgment of rights.

Like others I've used both! GBPVR for tv and Mediaportal for music. No reason they can't live together happily Smile

I tried MediaPortal before I found GBPVR (both about 13 months ago). The MediaPortal interface was much too resource-hungry for my 1.3G Celeron Mobile , mini-ITX, 512MB machine - it was like wading through treacle.
