I want to be able to record things off my virgin cable box (so I need analogue right?) and also be able to watch / record free to air digital TV. Ideally I would like to be able to record 2 digital channels at once. Is there such a card. I've read the wiki guides and am still not 100% sure which is the best card to buy.

Thanks in advance for your help.Smile

I've not seen anything that meets your needs to be able to record all three at once on one card. I ended up with a PVR150 to record from sky and use it's blaster to change channels and a Nova-t-500 for a pair of freeview tuners. The only limitation is that the analogue card has to have on-board mpeg compression - often difficult to see on specsheets where "mpeg" is sometimes done with the manufacturers software.

Thanks for the reply Martin. I only have 1 PCI slot so I think that is out of the question for me. Are the cards that can do 1 digital / 1 analogue hardware mpeg?

Afraid I'm not sure about that one.

One possibility could be a dual dvb-t like a nova-t-500 and an external USB stick/box for analogue - AFAIK, a number of them have hardware compression (but I don't know which ones - sorry).

hvr1300 does dvb-t and analog and says it has hardware encoding
not sure if you could recordfrom both at the same time though only has one tuner so i would say it cant

i would say usb is the only way you are going to get what you want

With the HVR3000 you can't record frm DVB-T and DVB-S at the same time.

Also the Analog has no hardware encoder..

The 1300 certainly has hardware encoding
Quote:"Record analogue TV shows to your PC's hard disk using our hardware MPEG-2 encoder. TV recordings will typically take 1,5 Gb of disk space per hour."

Sadly it looks like the UK Hauppauge forum has gone belly up, so asking about simultaneous recording would need a phone call.

Sorry my mistake, I read HVR1300 as HVR3000.

This mornings coffee has not had any effect yet...
