So in simple terms...
  1. Should I be able to see the GBPVR screen output from the MVP in 16:9?
  2. Can I stretch or otherwise confgure the MVP setting so it fills the whole screen like the NMT?
  3. Why don't the position settings keep the MVP GBPVR screen in a fixed spot?

I don't know if this helps. I seem to be confused where this converstaion is going, but since smurf mentioned MVP and MVPScreenPosition here's my two cents.

First, I made contact with Ron the author. He had lost his current source for the version that's on the wiki. (v9) version 4 source is on the wiki, though it doesn't look much like v9 does.

Anyway, I use the MVPScreen Position all the time, and have some very straightforward instructions.

Use Hauppauge to set MVP to 16.9
edit the config.xml to make dimensions of 720x576 PAL and 720x480 NTSC, with 0 x and Y offset.

Fire up the MVP and adjust the box so that the outside edge of the yellow lines are just barely outside your frame. Just barely.

Make note of the MAC address on screen..

In Config, MVPScreenPosition, make sure you have a new MVP setup, using the confirmed MAC address. Enter the numbers. Save.

Now I know that you either did or do use ZProcess. So you have the added step of in ZProcess (the latest available) in the Settings for Trans2MVP, check the 'Lock to MVPScreenPosition'

(I've set ZProcess to read the config.xml and use the dimensions you got from MVPScreenPosition, to help define the outside rectangle for ZProcess and transcoded non MPGs. Now there's no more guessing.)

Along those lines, when I made contact with Ron, I was hoping to modify the code to actually be a ZProcess Plugin. Still might.

I'm holding back because I still don't know the life of ZProcess. Wide Screens HDTV, and Digital TV might all make on the fly transcoding obsolete.

And then there's Popcorn Hour which is an MVP killer...

My other post dosn't straight answer this, so here it goes.

When you have the MVP set to 16.9 on a 16.9 screen, the 720x576 rectangle is stretched. That means if you have a 4x3 720x576 image it will be strecthed badly and you will want to switch your TV to Pillar Box.

If you have recorded HD content, that is correct aspect ratio at 16.9, and is downsized to 720x576, then you will see correct aspect ratio on your wdie screen TV.

Short answer: a 720x576 video can be either 4.3 or 16.9, depending on the aspect ratio bit being set....

ZProcess has been disgned to auto switch that bit as it takes a 4x3 video or a 16x9 video, transcodes it and presents it on the wide screen...(some setup required)

If you followed the directions from my other post and you are sure there is only one reference to you MAC address in Config.xml, then there should be no reason to GB-PVR does not create a rectanglke based on those settings (rememebr that after you get the numbers using the plugin, it's no longer used to keep the rectangle correct...)

zehd's comments about 16:9 just add to the confusion because setting it via the Hauppauge software won't help, setting via the mvpmc command line won't help, and I don't seem to be helping either, so hopefully someone else will.

OK

zehd Wrote:... Use Hauppauge to set MVP to 16.9
I use mvpmc, but I checked after I went back to the mvpmc screen (Go-back) out and 16:9 IS set as default video output.
zehd Wrote:... edit the config.xml to make dimensions of 720x576 PAL and 720x480 NTSC, with 0 x and Y offset.
I did this starting with 640,480,0,0.

Did this, except left boxes barely inside the frame.

zehd Wrote:... Make note of the MAC address on screen..
These I set up in config.xml as step#1.

Did this. When I went back to MVPScreenPosition in GBPVR, the box had moved and some parts were AGAIN outside the frame. Ignore the box though, if you like, it's just clouding the issue. The issue is the GBPVR screen moved (up and left) out of the range that I had just set.... and I can't get it to expand to the full screen size either.

zehd, I know you're trying to be of help here and I do appreciate that, however as noted above the plugin seems to be a helper app; the problem is the screen moves when I redo the MVP Coordinates and is still a wee GBPVR window with a big black surround. (which I thought was normal & expected and which I've been using on my TV for quite some time).

zehd, I missed this post. Forgetting ratios, are you saying for you when the MVP is set in 16:9 mode, the GB-PVR OSD is always stretched to fill the screen on a widescreen TV not just when it is zoomed? My experience is video is wide screen and it is the proper proportion when the source is also wide screen but it is is 4:3 pillar box otherwise. This might be an mpvmc or even my tv too.

Might be two different things. when Hauppauge set to 16:9, everything stretches out to the edges. That's good for me, because then I can Have ZProcess switch. It pillar boxes 4:3 content into a 16:9 rectangle...

But with some TVs, there's auto switching, that means if it gets a 16.9 bit set video it will be wide and 4.3 bit set it will be pillar.

My experience has been when I tell FFmpeg or MEncoder to set the 16.9 bit on video it fills the screen, 4.3 etc ..

OSD is always stretched... That's what I remember from when I tested ZProcess (and regular MPGs) from GB-PVR with the wide screen I borrowed...

Thanks, I'm definitely not able to give advice on this, my OSD never is stretched.
