I installed the MPV decoder. I see that it is Video only. I selected MPV for the video and MPEG decoder for Audio.

This did the trick. I can now navigate through my giude, select a show and watch it.

It is very stable on SD TV Programming. When I select an HD broadcast, the video freezes and advances. Is MPV only good for SD, or is there room for optimization?

I was also wondering if anyone else has noticed DScalar compatibility problems with HDHomerun?

Thanks for your help!

MVP is SD only. You will need to transcode the video first. The MVP/PCH forum should have a post or two on how to do this. (I don't have an MVP sorry). You could also try AC3Filter as an audio decoder. It's free and works well.

He means the MPV Video Decoder not the Hauppauge MediaMVP. epete, sorry I dont know if that decoder handles highdef or not. Our highdef here in New Zealand is H.264 so uses different decoders.

I don't know for certain but I'd be kind of surprised if MPV was SD only. Quite a few people use it and I haven't heard anyone mention it.

If you mentioned the specs of your machine anywhere I've missed it. More than likely your machine will simply take some optimization. HD is pretty intensive, and while it's possible to get decent playback on a modest machine, it's also possible to have poor playback on fairly beefy machine. CPU, video card, and decoder all play a signficant role, in some cases driver version and MS patches, and some combinations definitely work better than others.

The first step I'd recommend is to switch your video mode to Overlay in the config app. VMR mode takes significantly more CPU without a tremendous benefit, and so I'd start there and get that working, then work your way up if you really want VMR mode.

epete, on the NMT forums I suggested you come here to get help with the HDHRs setup but now I think you have reached the point where you should try and get this running from the PCH itself. You don't have to worry about decoders, encoders or other things that might be getting in the way of HD playing. After the PCH works you can try and resolve the PC problems which might actually be quite difficult depending on your computer and video card.

Not sure what the advantage of VMR is but I selected Overlay and get the same issue.

This is the most likely reason you're having problems with high definition channels. This video card wouldnt be up to this task. A nvidia 6600 or higher is recommended for high def.

Martin, you are correct. I will not spend time watching live programs on this machine. It is simply to use to interface with my PopcornHour NMT clients and my main interest was HD programming. If mvpmcx2 doesn't care and popcornhour can play recorded an live programs without the jumpy picture, I am probably OK. I would still like to know the solution for optimization just out of interest. I also have the option to move it to a better machine if needed. I haven't recorded anything yet so I want to still try that first, than I will work on mvpmcx2 and move my discussion back to the networkmediatank forum. I will also work on cleaning up the steps I took and document it for others on the top of this thread and the other one I started on http://www.networkmediatank.com

ok, so I will not worry about it unless it impacts my recordings or playback on popcornhour. Thank You!
