Hi ever since I got my PSP I've been trying to get movies streamed to it....easily.

Well I finally have. Using PiMPStreamer (Version 1) its finally possible.

Requires a "non standard" PSP firmware (mine is 3.40) and can be downloaded from http://www.pimpware.org/?page_id=26

I've just been watching recordings, downloaded program etc all via my wireless on my PSP. Great!!

You get tired of it after a while. Or maybe it's just because I frequently get dropped connections every time someone uses the microwave.

Wouldn't the limited bandwidth of WiFi B kinda suck for streaming video?

11mbps theoretical, ~5mbps throughput if you're getting a strong signal. PiMPStreamer consists of a "media server" on your PC which automatically transcodes videos being streamed to 480x272 and a client receiver on the PSP. For 480x272 on a 4.3" screen, you won't really need a lot of bitrate. Usually 1mbps is more than enough.

I transcode my files for transfer to memory stick and for MPEG-4 AVC encodes, normal bitrate I use is just 500kbps.

Seems ok if i'm fairly close to he router, and as ilovejedd says it does stream. Icould do it with ewa, but this has quite a nice interface thats easy to use on the psp,

I'll have to play with my 11yr old's psp on that one. He may get a kick out of this.

I take it that I shouldn't update any future firmware releases until these folks catch up.

Not sure...I haven't moved off yet cos I haven't seen anything to upgrade for....unless the PSP did this out of the box...

Last I tried PiMPStreamer, I was still using 1.50. That was a long time ago. I've got a couple of PSPs on newer custom firmware (3.71/3.80/3.90 M33). I'll try if PiMPStreamer works on those.

Yes, the PSP has the same feature out of the box. Forgot which firmware they introduced it. It's called LocationFree and requires the purchase of a LocationFree base station which costs around $200. Can be had from ebay for $50.

But not within GBPVR but as an addon program that is also running 24/7 yes? It would be nice if since GBPVR transcodes for MVPs it could do same for PSP. Is that what you wanted?

Yes I was quite happy to have a separate program.

I couldn't see support for auto transcode for PSP added since the PSP and the MVP are so very different in how they work. There would be no "PSP Client" so how would gbpvr know that a PSP is accessing data.

But then again, I actually got rid of that pimpstreamer program cos I found with it running that the machine was getting a blue screen and rebooting itself once a day....
