Better live tv quality that recording quality?

Recently, I changed the registry entries for my Hauppauge 1800 and I'm getting fantastic analog viewing for live tv, but when recording I'm getting alot of lines that have to be deinterlaced. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Using Nvidia Video Decoder
Nero Audio Decoder
Recording Drive: Separate 75 gig raptor
Using 1200 Bit rate Constant, at 480 by 480
VMR 9

Do you have both analog and digital capture sources set up? Recordings will default to the capture source nearest the top of the capture source list. Live TV does the opposite order, favoring the bottom of the list.

sadly no, I only have Comcast cable and in my area they do not offer HD so no QAM.

I do though have an s-video source that is also using the analog plug in

If you've only got the one capture source then its going to pretty much the same results for live tv vs recording. The only minor difference would the bit rate for the medium profile vs the live tv profile, but you can edit these to be the same in the 'analog recording plugin' settings. (direct recording plugin in previous releases)
