Both the HVR-1600 and HVR-1800 are good devices if you want analog + ATSC + QAM, and both should work fine with GB-PVR. I wouldnt waste my time looking at less common devices like the Pinnacle devices etc.
Not too sure on the 1600... I haven't determined if the issue I had with it the first time was a fluke (which could have very well been since I couldn't find any issue like mine reported anywhere). But once that remote stopped working, the only solution was a system restore and start over. However I can't find an 1800 local anywhere - even tried a few mom-n-pop shops and none keep tv tuner cards in stock.
Right now the 1250 is serving as an over glorified remote and my wife is now addicted to watching her anime and asian drama collection on the big screen. Trying to do this all local since I don't want to hold on to the 1250 any longer than need be - kinda wanna end this swap-n-try game as soon as possible. Eventually Circuit City will get tired of me coming in swapping product hehehe.

This is pretty popular card, with a large number of people here using it. I'm not aware of any issues with the remote on this device, so I'd put your past experience down to bad luck.
Well, swapped out the 1250 for another 1600 and viola - success! Got two sources going so far - one for analog cable (lower 2-99) and one for my vcr coming in on the composite as channel 0 (AUX). Gonna add another source this weekend for the digital channels then map the known ones replacing any overlapping analog ones.
