dear Sub,
I would like to have the possibility to mark commercials manually. Just by pressing a button while watching a show...

comskip is ok, but it is not working 100%...

Another question: can You also edit MPEG Files and REMOVE the marked commercals?
If not, does anybody here know a tool which is able to cut out marked pieces of a show?

Have a look at Videoredo. It is not free, but is very good.

@narkuma:

I second this. The possibility to set something like trackmarks when watching a recording for the first time would be great. Best would be, if GBPVR would than automatically skip, next time you watch that show.
But even only trackmarks for a manual skip would help a lot.

yeah chapters is a much needed missing features, xbmc does this quite well. and just make the chapter file compatible with videoredo (its seems popular), so you can mark the start and end of commericals, and then just click a button "delete commericals" and away you go.

Another tool for removing commercials is nanoPEG editor from nanoCosmos. It doesn't re-encode the file so it's very fast. Its included free with Hauppauge's pvr-250 and pvr-350 (maybe others too), and you can download a demo from nanoCosmos' site.

It doesn't import comskip's default format directly since it uses time frames instead of MPEG video frames for it's cut list format, but I found it was pretty simple to come up with a spreadsheet that would convert between the two. (I've been planning on making a simple perl program to do the same, but I've just not taken the time.)

If you aren't a Hauppauge user let me give you a hint about the demo. It says it's limited to a 30-second conversion, but that's only if you use their previewer for marking your cuts. If you import a cut list, there's no limit. (Shhhh!!Wink I use this verson so I can do my cutting on my fastest machine, which isn't the one with the Hauppauge hardware in it.

Here's a link to their download site. nanoCOSMOS demos The download page asks for your email to send you a key, which they do send, but I don't know what good it is. You don't have to use it, and if you try to, it's not in the format the product expects, so it's a bit mixed up in that regard.

thank you all for the good hints.
but now comes the tricky thing:
I need a tool that works from the commandline. or a library whose api can be used by sub...
I have no keyboard nor ouse nor vga screen...
