hi bryan

I sort of worked out a method that works quite well. ( it has a couple problems at the moment. but works quite well with some limitations. needs a little help from sub)

anyways you can try if you want..

simple set up capture source ( use either a device that does not exist on your machine or it might write another file at the same time consumming cpu cycles-- we need a little help from sub for this part to build a simple capture source plugin that reads a specific file)

set up your guide ( use any thing- curious why it does not have a nulll input for stuff like this where no guide is possible)

now select channel changer "EXE changer plugin"
set your vlc executable path

now in your params

put this
udp://@:channel Confusedout=#duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="C:\buffer.mpg"}}
curously though I am running the same version on two different machine's but for channel it could be one of two options either channel as above or {channel} ( one works for one but not the other)
this will write the file to the drive with ps encapulation ( if it needs trancoding add your own options)

set the channel number to equal the port setting for the upd broadcast- at the moment this is set for push upd but it works for multicast upd broadcast just put in the multicast IP

now simply choose that channel to watch. then escape and go browse for the the the buffer.mpg and watch..

there are a few gliches.. vlc runs hidden and does not shut off ever if you change the channel. ( you have to use task manager to kill the process.)
and you have to browse for the file..

I also got it to work with alot of third party apps too.. but it would be nice if there was a "simple capture source" pluggin that just reads A specific file then I would not need to browse for the buffer file all the time..

Sub,

I emailed my logs to you. If you get a chance to look at them, I would appreciate it. I bet I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure out what it is.

Thanks again,

Bryan

oh I am sorry. I assume to much
vlc is thirdparty app found at videolan.org

videolan client..

you can get it to run a bit more stable, by going into the prefernces of vlc and enabling allow only one instance of vlc. now when you switch channels the new instance of vlc kills the earlier ( most times).

and if your not to familar with vlc is has commanline generators so just use those to build your params for the channel changer..

I am going to try to build a passthrough program (do not know how much luck I will have, to kill stuff on channel changes)

basically I think it would work like this:
( if any one has a suggestion please say)
iie
the program we call " kill"
the channel changer executable path will be the "kill" programs path.

then in the params you would put something like this.
-10 :udp://@:channel Confusedout=#duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="C:\buffer.mpg"}}

-10 is denoted in INI file of the kill program the path to the specifiic executable your trying kill and then restarts it, with the new params which would be found after the the ":" value..

other params for the kill program might be:
-w {} wait so many seconds
-n no kill

Sash-

Did you ever get this to where it's pretty stable? If so, I think that I'll give it a try. If I can get it working, I'll write something up on the wiki site. I like the VLC piece for streaming and it looks like it will perform well.

Sub,

GBPVR is great but need live TV streaming on the LAN.

I tried to use it over the LAN, starting the recording service on the server (winxp, Wintv PVR 250). On the server, live TV works well.

On the station (Win 2000), i may have 3 error messages :
a ) the recording service is not active : the "normal" message is:

"unable to connet to the server"

b ) the recording service is active and GB-PVR is runing live TV ont the serveur : the normal message is

"no capture source was available to enable you to watch the requested channel"

c ) the recording service is active and the server don't use thr ressource. the recording status of the service on the server switch to "live TV (LivePreview Mode), and, on the station, the error message is :

" Error : object reference not set to an instance of an object"

The first 2 errors are normal and explained only to demonstrate the 3rd one

Config.xml has the two lines modified :

<!-- Remote client settings -->
<RecordingServiceLocation>tcp://192.168.0.44:7968/RecordingRemote</RecordingServiceLocation>

<!-- database settings -->
<DatabaseConnectionString>Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="\\192.168.0.44\Donnees\gbpvr\gbpvr.mdb";User Id=admin;Password=</DatabaseConnectionString>

the traffic on the network seems to be null.

The gbpvr.exe.log shows an error :

11/03/2005 22:37:23.310 ERROR [2] Error: msg=0x202 (WM_LBUTTONUP) hwnd=0x220444 wparam=0x0 lparam=0x10100b1 result=0x0 : Object reference not set to an instance of an object. : at ConnectFilters(IBaseFilter* pFilterUpstream, IBaseFilter* pFilterDownstream)

I think the software is quite capable to work in a LAN environement, .... and because of a verry little bug ..... he can't !

If you can take a few time to correct that, i'll enjoy to make a donation [Image: wink.gif]

by the moment, i can stream live tv using Sagerecorder on the server (in live tv mode, on recording mode) and VLC media player ont the client (reading the recording file), but it's complicate to use, and a unique software, in a LAN environement would be better.

I can help you with a donation [Image: wink.gif]

The error above is most likely caused by trying to use live preview mode. Turn off live preview mode on the client.

Thank you for your answer .....

It works well after a last problem .......

The real entire name of the live buffer has to be exactly the same on the server and the client
it means that ont the server, i had to change the live buffer name
from E:\LiveBuf to \\PVRserver\DriveE\Livebuf

Thank you for your excellent software. As promised, i will make a donation [Image: biggrin.gif]

You may take time to explain how to use it in a LAN environment, and if possible
make some change to use it without editing config.xml file, and the possibility
to not launch recording service when exiting config mode (client).

sash: surely you would have to run vlc on both the server and the client, with different command lines? I can only find what seems to be a client command line in the posts above. (Are you using vlc on the server to capture directly, or is there something to do with the MPV interface?)

An alternative to writing the stream to an mpeg file (and displaying it in gbpvr), would be to just render the stream in vlc as it comes in. Then the client could almost sit unattended, and you could control it from the server.

sorry being away for awhile..

well yes I guess if you wanted to run vlc on both if you want to serve and to be a client. but I was basically using to access multicast or unicast streams that I set up on my network. I would broadcast multiple streams from either a closed network or over the worldwide web.. from another access point then on the gbpvr was basically set up only as a client.. ( but it would be relatively easy to set it up as server too I guess).. i was only really thinking it a client for a close tv network system. Ie : on campus broadcast multiple media over a closed network in the dorm.. where many user could access differing channels broadcast on differing ports...

I can get it to run very stably with no problems for hours and hours ( ocassionaly you might have to refresh the connection )

my biggest problem was tring to incorperate it in to the tv guide fully.. at the moment I click on the definded broadcast channel in the tvguide the go browse to my video folder and open up the video being written by vlc and watch the streamed material..

I was trying to write a "plugin" based on your (normanr) software encoder plug that you have for tv capture cards. but I am completly lost with it.. you propably read about it on this forum. i just wanted to write a capture device pluggin such as software tvcapture card, but the only difference it just read from a defined file.. then it would be fully intergated into gb-pvr tv guide.. perhaps you can help with that Wink ...
