I had gbpvr and zprocess up and running fine on my mvp, using older versions of both, but Ive recently upgraded to a new quad core Ive built and am looking at a clean install with the latest versions.

I can get it to work fine when using mencoder if it displays a stretched out and cropped, letterbox picture on my tv, but when I change the settings to 720x576 PAL which perfectly fill my tv screen, the picture then becomes pixelated and jerky. Using the same settings but using ffmpeg I get good results - will I lose out by sticking with ffmpeg? Or would I be better off finding out how to fix the mencoder settings?

No rush on answering this, as I said ffmpeg seems good enough for me really.

Cheers.

Hi. I on;y introduced MEncoder a while ago as an alternative that would also colour correct, and display SRT subtitles. I still haven't got that with FFmpeg...

If your colour is fine, and you don't need subtitles, then not to worry...

To be clear, I haven't got subtitles in FFmpeg because subtitles are not yet available in FFmpeg. It's a limitation

To be clear, I meant I wouldnt mind subtitles, so how would I go about fixing the pixelation problem with mencoder.

Well first off, make sure that you have a version of Mencoder (make sure you have it's sister mplayer too) that I suggest on the wiki page. Use defaults, reset in ZProcess if necessary. Then try and transcode something and view it while in manual mode. That will be easier than running between the server and the client all the time. If it looks good in the mplayer window then it should be fine.

If you still have trouble, you might want to send me a snip and I can play with optimal settings...

BTW, one other way to return ZProcess to defaults would be to run the ZProcess Remove Settings.reg that's in the zip...

I reread this original ost. I will check once more that the default values for MEncoder and PAL are good and clean

Thanks for that.

It seems my bitrate was to high, assuming for the network and not the quad core doing the transcoding?

Cheers.
