I bought an XPC Shuttle a week ago, 2.8GHz Celeron D, 1GB RAM, ATI 9600 256MB and a NOVA-S-Plus PCI card. My wife let me buy it because I said we could use it to watch Freeview. Well many hours later I still haven't delivered on that promise.
I'm sure it's just the fact that I'm just not setting something up correctly, my knowledge of satellite TV tuning is little at the moment. My initial attempt with WinTV managed to get a working TV1 and TV2 but that was it.
After much searching I came across GBPVR and I've got to say it looks very professional compared to WinTV but unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to work properly.
After even more searching of the forums I managed to set the capture source so that when it scans for Freeview channels it now finds them but I get no picture in the preview box and no picture when I try to watch live TV via PVRX2.
I have used a splitter between our SKY decoder and the NOVA-S-Plus, the power pass through connection at the splitter goes to the SKY decoder. I have a dual LNB fitted to the SKY dish.
I used the settings:
LNB LOF 1 10750
LNB Switch 10750
LNB LOF 2 10750
Optus D1 (NZFTA)
Unchecked powered
DiSEqC to none

When scanning for channels I'm getting:
@ 12456H strength -1899 & quality 100 (should the strength settings be negative amounts?)

When I try to watch live TV via PVRX2 I get the message "no signal detected...", the quality bar is max and the strength bar zero.

I have a clean install of XP Pro and I downloaded the latest drivers from ATI and Hauppauger.

I hope someone can help me get it up and running, my wife has promised me a reward if I'm successful.

I guess that you have probably done this already, but have you tried plugging the Shuttle to the cable rather than the spitter? I read somewhere that splitters can reduce the signal by a significant %, so it might be good enough for a scan, but not for watching. Maybe upgrade to a quad LNB (you can get them for next to nothing) and pop another cable through. Don't spend anything until you are confident that you know that it'll fix it though!

PS- I just use the default LNB settings and they seem to work OK.
PPS- I have had problems with "no signal" messages (but OK in preview) on one of my PCs after upgrading to the latest version of GBPVR, so I had to roll back. 1.1.15- could be an issue with the Nova S+ though in my case I think it is something to do with DiSeQC switching. You could try disabling "live preview" in the options.

As per my cable guy the last time he was around to fix something, yes, even if the other end isn't connected to anything, it still splits the signal strength.

I've only ever had problems with the "signal strength meter" screen. Pretty sure the old problems were fixed in the newer versions of GBPVR, but if you want to be sure, just search on Signal Meter or similar to find the line you can change in config.xml to disable it completely. (<disablesignalstatus>true or something like that.) Although, even if you do get that screen but the signal is actually fine, I think just switching to a different channel would let me watch the next channel.

Kind of sounds like a video decoder problem. First recommendation is to download CCCP codec pack, that can do pretty much everything. I'm not sure how what decoder works with UK satellite feeds, I'm guessing they are h.264 but maybe not. If the built-in (?) Nero decoder isn't working, the FFDshow one in CCCP should after you set the tab in the Config screen to use it. If they are mpeg2 feeds, again, CCCP pack should fix it, or just try MPV video decoder first if you want.

Basically, if a sample video of a station you are trying to watch can't be played in Media Player or Media Player Classic or similar DirectShow player, then GBPVR likely won't work with that type of video, either, and you need the right codec/decoder installed. If you can scan the channels but don't get video, not having the right decoder is my first guess.

edit: Er, NZ not UK.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Thanks for the reply
I had another go at bypassing the the splitter and taking the satallite cable straight to the NOVA-S-Plus but now I get no signal strength what so ever and no channels found.
In Source/Settings I tried changing the powered setting and a couple different DiSEqC settings but every time no signal. When I reconnect the splitter scanning finds the channels but no picture as before.
I had the same problem last week when I was trying to set up WinTV, I had no signal strength until I connected the splitter and ran one cable to our SKY decoder and one to the Shuttle. I did get two channels working fine with WinTV and the guy I bought the Shuttle off said in the past he was able to watch Freeview channels fine with it.
I also tried unchecking Live preview mode in MISC but after that when I tried to watch Live TV in PVRX2 I get the message "No tuners are available...".

sounds to me like a couple of things are going on, yes it could be that the codecs or mux isn't installed correctly, and also the power settings for the lnb may not be on, have you tried scanning etc when the sky box is on and showing tv?

You said something about dual lnb's, so do you have two lnb's on your dish or do you have one dual lnb, that brings in all the diseq stuff which I have no idea about.

Actually being hung over right now none of the above probably helps much or makes much sense

I set up the TV so that it was displaying both the SKY output and the Shuttle's output at the same time, that made no obvious difference in the way GBPVR was responding.
I have a single oval LNB that the SKY guy fitted a year ago when we upgraded our TV.
I'm not sure what MUX is at this stage but I tried the MUX checker that's part of GBPVR and it comes up with "No multiplexer filters were found on your machine". It also states I need WinXP SP1 or higher, I have WinXP with SP3.
Any more ideas?

check the power box that turns on the lnb (needed if sky box not turned on)

if you can get to the lnb it will tell you what the settings need to be(these settings are different depending on the hardware thing on sat dish )
select dvr-ms as your mux on the second to last tab(Misc1)
seems you have the correct source (optus d1)
select dvb-s as your epg source

you are also best to remove the sky box or at least turn it off for set up reason just so you know its not interfering

If looks to me like your lnb lof's are incorrect mine are set to 11300 (all three) but I dont run a dual lnb system.

And yes with the hauppauge cards they tend to have negatives for the strength (mine hit -3299).

The rest of your settings look correct.

Just read on geekzone that your lnb looks ok. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?For...icid=22589

Try a recording, does that do anything?
