So, I'm trying to get my new Freeview HD PVR working, but having a bit of trouble. I've been reading the forms and mucking about with my codecs, but to no avail, and I'm just as confused as when I started!

I have a Nova-T 500 HD tuner and Nvidia 8500 GT graphics card with GB-PVR 1.2.13. I know my hardware is working fine because I can record and play video with Power Cinema. I also know I can record fine with GB-PVR because Nero Player will play my recorded files.

However, when I try to play recordings with GB-PVR I just get a blank screen and 50% CPU usage (Core Duo 2.4GHz). I guess it's a problem with playback codec selection, but i can't figure it out.

It's only the H.264 that's a problem, GB-PVR will play MPEG2 files from my trusty analogue PVR-500 and Div-X avi files just fine.

Has anyone who has got this working nicely, and can help me get it set up?

Thanks!

Thanks stustunz... after installing the monogram decoder, I can now play the files using the the Nero, Cyberlink, or MPC video decoders, but they all have audio sync problems (as discussed in other threads).

Do you have any sync problems? I'm downloading PDVD8 now... should that help with the sync?

Edit:
Update... i found the "Use DxVA" option on my current Cyberlink decoder (came with Power Cinema), and audio is now in sync, but CPU still up at 40% to 50%. I expected it to be lower with hardware acceleration.

Just in case anyone's interested... I can report that my audio sync problems magically disappeared when I got hardware video acceleration working.

Using Monogram + AC3Filter and Cyberlink H.264 PDVD8 codecs. The trick was to get the PDVD8 codec to use DXVA. Initially, I could make it work in graphedit, but not in GB-PVR. This is because cyberlink's settings are unique to each exe, as described by whurlston here. For some reason, my registry didn't match whurlston's description, so I tried another approach. I renamed Config.exe to PVRX2.exe (after temporally renaming PVRX2.exe to something else), and ran it. Some crazy windows preparing to install dialogue appeared, so I cancelled that and config came up correctly. I was able to get into the codec settings and enable DXVA. After renaming everything back the way it's should be it worked nicely. Let's hope it stays that way! Oh, I also enabled DXVA in Power DVD itself, but I don't think that was necessary.

sub: how about adding a Settings option to the System menu where one can bring up the codec options so changes to the Cyberlink decoder are associated with the appropriate executable name?

Well, I now have a PVRX2 key (that doesn't seem to contain anything sensible), but I didn't get a Config key before when I changed the settings in the config.exe. See attached JPG. CLVSD contains "UIUseHVA" with value of 1.

Hmmm... I've just discovered I can't play while recording very well, it gets choppy. Hopefully that's because of my old crappy 60G IDE drive I'm using. Now that it looks like it's working I'm allowed to go buy some nice new big disks. I'm thinking WD GreenPower (quiet) 750s or 1Ts. Anyway, I digress...

CPU is hovering between 7% and 15% right now. I'll try again later when it's not recording.
