GBPVR - reliable

I have a dedicated GBPVR box which displays on my 37 inch LCD. I also spawn a client off it in my bedroom. I dont have any other software installed on either box. And they just run and run and run. I guess that my main HTPC has been up and runnning for at least 6 weeks (since the last update) it's not missed a recording. It plays everything back fine. It records two channels at once and I can play back a 3rd at the same time. It's great it really is.

I hear how so many other PVR apps eg mediaportal crash all the time. OK mediaportal is free but I would be hard pushed to belive that even paid up apps can match GBPVR for reliablity.

Agreed, it can sometimes take a while to get the system 'settled' after the initial install (drivers, codecs, etc) - but once you've sussed the best config it is rock solid...

The support from sub and the many other knowledgeable people on here is second to none, so any problems seem to be resolved quickly where possible

I had a zero length recording about 2 years ago . . nothing exciting has happened since then

yep, its taken me AGES to get mine to the point that i am happy with it (largely my fault, though) - the only thing i have an issue with now is the occasional boot from s3 mode that i have to alt f4 to get rid of the black screen + restart gbpvr - thats it, really. Barely ever miss a recording now i use IRserver suite, its fantastic

Yep, second that. I've found GB-PVR to be extremely reliable. It's been running perfectly for several months, now.

Right now, the only reasons I still get failed recordings are:
-cable is down
-antenna got pulled from the splitter
-hard drive's full
-shut down computer to do some hardware maintenance (vacuuming, etc) and forgot to turn it back on

As can be seen, none of the above are GB-PVR's fault.

Lol - Yeah - Sub could you also look at getting digital terrestrial in my area before nov 2009?

Have you thought about getting a DVB-S or DVB-S2 card and tuning into Freesat. The fact that you can pick up HD would be a big selling point to me.

Yep - I'm already running the sky box through to GBPVR.

While HD would be nice, I need to convince the mrs that we need an HD tv first

TBH I'd love to get rid of the dish (damn ugly things), but I reckon when we do get freeview in 2009 it'll be 'half-view' (cut down freeview for areas served by a repeater) - so I guess I'm stuck with a dish...
