What do you use for DVD ripping?

I gave DVD shrink & handbrake a try.

DVD Shrink was fast, but I couldn't play the rips from my PCH. I could play individual vob files, but I was hoping for full menus (like I can get when I play it w/i GBPVR on the PC)

I tried using handbrake to make one big mp4 out of it, but it said it would take 74 hours to complete - I would think my rig should be able to transcode a little faster than that...

Any ideas?

dvd decrypter. rips to files or iso, but i'm not sure how this would differ from dvd shrink on your system.
'super' is a reasonable transcoding app if you want to give the rip then transcode route another go.

Does DVD shrink rip to ISO? I only saw it create VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders - it showed up in the Video Menus as <name>.dvd - it played fine from GBPVR on the PC itself, but not on the Popcorn Hour.

Can you play ISO images from the PCH?

DVD shrink can rip to an ISO. It is in a menu somewhere ( http://tinyurl.com/64ymqb ).
I typically use DVD shrink and re author, saving just the main movie ( or TV episodes).
Most of the time you can just change the .VOB to .MPG and it works fine. There is also a program that will take VOB's and make them MPGs (I can't remember what that is, not at my home machine now).
Or use handbrake to take it to h.264

I usually use ripit4me which is great and incorporates dvd shrink, dvd decrypter and fixvts all into one application. I have never run into a dvd it can't rip. It's kind of hard to find a good copy of it now though as I think the developers don't have their site still up and running.

I don't rip many DVD's, but I have a few that I like to keep on my hard drive to watch quickly on my TViX M-4000P media player.

I've tried a number of different rippers over the years, but am currently using DVD Shrink to reauthor just the main movie (no shrink, keep the same size). I then use VideoRedo to load and combine the multiple VOB files and resave as a single MPG file. It's fast and easy.

I only save the main movie because I hate watching the previews and other junk over and over again. I just want to watch the movie. If I really want to watch the commentary, bloopers, or whatever, I can always put the DVD in. Saving just the main movie also takes less space on my hard drive.

I think this is a GBPVR front end for dvd decrypter which needs to be installed as well.....

I use DVDFab to decrypt and copy the main movie to the hard drive. Then I use TMPGEnc to combine all the VOB files into a single MPG file. This last step is really kind of an odd use of TMPGEnc. When importing video from a DVD, it creates a "dat" as part of this import operation. If you just rename the "dat" to "mpg", it plays.

It couldn't play menus from Shrink? Would think it could as long as you don't reauthor the whole thing. Just shrinking it should keep all menus intact. Reauthoring is what screws everything up.

I don't have a PCH, though, so I dunno.
