Since I use GB-PVR for purely PVR purposes and I never turn the server off since it also acts as file and printer server, set-up was fairly easy. However, with the whole building a new PC and installing XP with latest updates and .NET slipstreamed, thing, the GB-PVR server took a whole day to finish. Actual GB-PVR set-up took me about 2 hours tops. All plug-ins not related to recording have also been removed from the main menu.

1. install Gabest MPV decoder
2. install HDHomeRun drivers
3. set-up and QAM remapping
4. install VC8 runtime
5. install GB-PVR and initial set-up
6. add tuners and map channels to EPG

I subscribe to Schedules Direct so I didn't have to jump through hoops to get the EPG working. :p

It took me about an hour or so, including TV and EPG. But: I have been hassling with Media Portal for over a year and have that pretty stable for the last couple of months, so all codecs/hidef stuff/MCE remote were already installed.

Martin's right. If all you're doing is setting up a tuner card and using it for MVP for example, it's freaky simple (now at least) and very stable.

Thankfully, the Ex-WAF is very high, and it's been running well over 1.5 years...

If I do it for myself, with my test environments, MVP, PC client, local playback with codecs, a lot longer of course.

And I don't have a lot of non-default plugins or skins... so that makes it a lot easier too

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Are two years now I am battling with GBPVR system configuration.
After a first year spent to fix analog HVR-1300 driver problem and hibernate issues I reached a stable WAF compliant analog configuration with GBPVR 99.05. I preferred analog since at that time DVB-T transmissions were not as stable as required.
Two months ago I upgraded the system with a further hard disk, new drivers and last release of GBPVR. The system was up in 4 hours and ready for either DVB-T and/or Analog. I preferred to switch all to DVB-T because of glitches in the analog recording (they were also present in previous 99.05 configuration indeed) and DVB-T transmissions are now stable.
All went good less one of the two remoted MVP stations. In fact, due to a wiring power line attenuation, bitrate felt under the rate required from the new dongle and I experienced that Cyberlink muxer introduced glitches in recording. After a 2 days intensive testing I found that ATI muxer performs better than Cyberlink and older MVP dongle, extracted from a previous GBPVR release (99.05 i think), was less rate consuming than the one bundled with GBPVR 1.2.13.
Now I have my (or better my wife has) "Calimero" (name of the black chick advertising a famous washing powder in Italy) working better than before but, as a never ending story, I am currently testing new XMLTV grabber for Italy that seems better performing with respect my current TVXB setting. Wife will not be happy to that but she loves the way I am ;-).
