HI, I have an Harp. HD-pvr that I am using with an MCE IR remote and receiver, I am not currently using the Harp. supplied remote that came with the HD_PVR. The HD_PVR uses an external ir blaster to tune an Scient. Atlantic DSTB. I have not been able to configure GBPVR to tune the DSTB yet. If I select "no changer needed" then I can view the last channel tuned. All though I can tune channels with the DSTB remote. I have tried many combinations with no luck. I have been reading the forums and I have read where some configs have worked and others have not. I had this setup working fine in Sage so I know the blaster can drive the DSTB, and the HD-pvr can capture. Does anyone out there know if it is possible to use the HD-PVR with a MCE remote while using the external IR blaseter on the HD-pvr to externally tune a dstb? Additionally I tried to remove the remote from the equation by simply using a mouse. I still have had no luck on configuring GBPVR to tune. I would appreciate any info. The type of remote that I am using is a Microsoft MCE Remote 2005 (version 2) remote with USB receiver, with XP Pro SP3.

I use an MCE remote/blaster and HIP with my HD-PVR. Works fine. What model STB do you have?

I have the scientific antlanta 4250hdc. I have gotten this to work in sagetv. My question is if the remote is taken away and simply a mouse is used should not gbpvr be able to send the channel change code back to the hd-pvr which in turn sends the ir sequence which in turn tunes the STB? I understand the remote control might need HIP or some other third party software to map correctly, but if you are using a mouse then one should be able to tune or am I missing something here? One other qwuick note I am supposed to use the haupblast.exe for channel changing is that right? I assume that is what you used. Your time is appreciated

Update. I was able to manage gbpvr to tune the stb by using haupblast.exe, unfortunately after the channel is tuned the screen remains black. The HD-PVR turns on the large hidden blue light and every thing appears to be working. But in reality nothing is being streamed to disk.

I think that's the same STB I have. I don't use the Haupp. blaster at all, only the MCE. I've heard that others have had problems using the HD-PVR to change channels. The MCE remote and blaster will handle it all. Select MCE remote in the GB-PVR config (you probably already have that set up) and set up the blaster side with HIP. In the capture setup you specify '.exe changer' and point it to HIPBlast.exe. You gotta have HIP installed & configured, tho. I think there's some info in the wiki on how to do it. It can be a bit of a PITA to set up but works well once you have it. If we do have the same box I may be able to send you the HIP config that I use...it might make life easier.

Or, I think you can drive the MCE blaster with the IR server suite that stustunz mentioned. I think there's a tutorial somewhere on how to set it up. HIP works for me so I never tries IR server suite.

You might also be able to use the USB or firewire connections on the STB to change channels. Not sure if it'll work with SA boxes, tho.

I thought about firewire channel changing and decided not to do it. I am going to try MCE blaster approach with hip to handle the blaster portion. If you you would not mind sending me that config file I would really appreciate it and I do Thank You for your time!

PM me with your email address. I may not be able to get to it until tomorrow. In the meantime, download & install HIP. I think I can just send you the config files (IIRC, there's two or three that you need) and you can just drop them into place. That's the approach I've used a couple times to migrate to another system. My STB is a 4240...probably uses the same IR codes...we'll see...

Hi my email is den372@gmail.com. I really appreciate it. I have been playing with hip and installed the mceir.sys driver for the receiver. I was using a test machine to develop ther blaster codes for the 2450hdc. I was able to get hip to learn the power on/off ok of the STB. I then decided to move the whole setup into the HTPC room (different PC). I tried to reload my hip config file that I had built earlier. I was able to navigate gbpvr ok, but I noticed that my commands I set up in I/O remote commands were gone. When I tried to relearn the power on/off hip froze up. I only copied 1 config file it that is all that is needed to move config files around? Anyways thanks for all the help. Introducing me to HIP has enabled me to see the light. I just hope I can get the blaster to drive my stb. I think I am on the right track in part due to you. Thank You - Ted

BTW I am using winxp pro SP3 not WINXP MCE 2005 I hope that does not make any difference as far as hip controlling blasting is concerned. Any thoughts appreciated
