Antivirus Suggestion

I've used AVG for the past year or so. Other than a few recent false positives, I've been quite happy with it.

Another vote for (free) AVG here - I've been using it for a number of years, the version before the current one, got on my nerves a bit (seemed to always be notifying me that it was checking for updates), but the latest seems to have sorted that...

Over the last years I'v tried a lot of antivirus programs, both fre and "not really free" (if you know what I mean). I ended up with Avast! ans Spybot on all computers, relying mostly on on-demand scanning but run a full scan every saturday morning when there is nothing to record and noone is up watching recordings

Since I installed this combination I'v had no trouble whit virus or trojans.

the only drawback on that is the popup screen when it updates the virus definitions.

Click start, then 'Run...'
in the box type 'secpol.msc' and press enter
now right click on the 'software restriction policies' in the left hand menu and click the option 'create new policies'

It will create two new folders under 'software restriction policies'. Right click on 'Additional Rules' and click 'New Path Rule'
Now click the browse button and navigate to where avnotify.exe is kept. If you do a default install of the current version this will be 'C:\program files\avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe' (in the browse menu it won't show with the .exe on the end, just look for avnotify with the red umbrella thingy icon).
Click OK, then make sure security level is set to disallowed, then click allow again.

Close secpol.msc and bingo you're sorted no more popups
